Elena La Fulana Honors Motherhood with New Single “Madre”

Washington, DC — May 7, 2024 — Latin Grammy-nominated instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Elena La Fulana, renowned leader of the DC-based, Wammie-nominated band Elena & Los Fulanos, announces the release of her latest single, “Madre” (“Mother”), on May 10th, 2024. The song was recorded at Innovation Station Music.

Crafted in the traditional Huapango style, a cherished musical form prevalent in Mexico and Central America, “Madre” showcases Elena’s profound connection to her Nicaraguan roots. Drawing from her extensive experience touring with the Latin-Grammy winning, Grammy-nominated group Flor de Toloache, Elena infuses the song with authentic instrumentation, including the guitarrón, marimba, bombo, and quijada (jaw-bone), evoking the essence of Latin American musical heritage.

As the month of May unfolds, dedicated to celebrating the unparalleled influence of mothers, Elena La Fulana pays homage to the extraordinary women who have shaped her life. “Madre” delves deep into the sacred bond between mothers and their children, inspired by Elena’s own journey as an expecting mother and the timeless wisdom imparted by her beloved mother, Aurora, and late nanny, Estella “Comadre” Martínez.

Hailing from Managua, Nicaragua, Elena embodies a dual identity, seamlessly blending her Nicaraguan heritage with her American upbringing. From soul-stirring folk Americana to enchanting Latin cumbia, Elena’s music transcends borders, resonating with audiences worldwide.

Following the success of her band’s acclaimed second album, Volcán, hailed by the Washington City Paper as “a bilingual folk album for the resistance,” Elena continues to captivate audiences with her unparalleled talent. Her contributions to the music industry have earned her nominations for prestigious awards, including the Latin Grammy for her work with Flor de Toloache.

In “Madre,” Elena La Fulana weaves a captivating narrative, inviting listeners on a poignant journey celebrating the enduring power of maternal love and guidance. The single artwork, featuring Elena alongside her mother Aurora and late nanny “Comadre,” serves as a visual testament to the song’s heartfelt message.
