Hannah Laing, Sonny Fodera and Champion to join BBC Radio 1’s Residency

Published: September 25, 2024 — From Thursday 3 October, Radio 1’s Residency will continue on the network and Radio 1 Dance with a brand new and exciting line-up of world-renowned DJs.

Hannah Laing, Sonny Fodera and Champion are the latest DJs who will be spinning the biggest tunes every Thursday for four weeks from 11pm – 1am.

The weekly show brings listeners into the world of some of the biggest names in pioneering, high-energy dance and electronic music, shining a spotlight on the freshest, most influential and emerging sounds from across the international club scene.

The line-up for October, November and December is as follows:

• October: Hannah Laing
• November: Sonny Fodera
• December: Champion

Details of a one-off special Halloween show on Thursday 31 October with a guest artist, will be announced soon.

Hannah Laing

Hannah Laing is a DJ and producer who is heavily championed by artists from Peggy Gou and Patrick Topping to Dom Dolla and Solomun. In 2023, she was awarded Skiddle Artist of the Year and her track ‘Good Love’ featured in the Top 5 of the UK Official Chart. A SoundCloud Global Ascending Artist and 1001 Tracklists ‘Future Dance Artist’, Back in February, Hannah was crowned BBC Radio 1’s Breakthrough Dance Artist of the Year and following selling 60K tickets to her solo headline shows in 2024, Hannah is preparing for her headline tour in Australia later in the year and in the US in 2025.

Hannah Laing says: “I still remember so clearly the first time one of my tracks was played on Radio 1. I could not believe it had happened it felt crazy. I’m now lucky enough to have my tracks played regularly and it still never feels normal to me. Now to get the opportunity of a residency really is an honour. I can’t wait to take control for four weeks of doof.”

Sonny Fodera

London-based Sonny Fodera has curated a sound that is completely his own. The globally-renowned, DJ-producer, label head and in demand collaborator has become a staple name within the dance music scene and with 6.5M monthly Spotify listeners, the popularity for Sonny’s music shows zero signs of slowing down. Able to create melodic, liquid and fast paced tracks that are truly addictive and made with dance floor appeal, Sonny has collaborated with some of the best artists in the business, working with the likes of Diplo, Becky Hill and Gorgon City, amongst others. Whilst through his own independent label, Solotoko, Sonny helps champion the next wave of emerging talent and turn heads in the industry.

Alongside global success of his music, Sonny can command a crowd anywhere in the world and has become a global headliner, including headlining We Are FSTVL and Creamfields, selling out shows at Alexandra Palace in London, 3Arena in Dublin and the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles and three residencies at Amnesia, in Ibiza.

Champion

Champion started as a DJ in 2001, influenced by his father’s sound system and his mother’s rap career in “X-Possee.” In 2007, he adopted the name Champion, paying tribute to his dancehall influences, and made waves with his track “Tribal Affair,” which blended UK Funky with Bassline. Since then, he has collaborated with Terror Danjah and Four Tet, performed with Skrillex and Four Tet and launched his own label, Formula Records. Champion’s decade-spanning catalogue and signature “Champion Sound” continues to shape the UK Dance scene and he is looking forward to performing at Drumsheds and releasing some big collaboration records in 2025.

Champion says: “I’ve grown up witnessing some of the greatest moments in music history happening because of Radio 1 so being a part of the BBC Radio 1 Residency is a very special moment for me. I’m deeply honoured and really excited for it. It will be a such a great opportunity to shine a bigger light on the music I represent as well as the amazing talent that makes it. Really looking forward to this!”
