After years of dominance by tennis legends Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, and the Williams sisters, a new era is dawning on the tennis court. YOUNG GUNS: THE NEW TENNIS TITANS, a compelling documentary released by Sky and produced by ITN Productions, explores the rise of a dynamic generation of tennis superstars poised to reshape the sport’s landscape.
Venturing into the heart of tennis greatness, this documentary invites viewers on a global journey. In Monaco, viewers catch up with the sport’s Holger Rune as he hones his skills under the watchful eye of coach Boris Becker. Meanwhile, Juan Carlos Ferrero, the coach of the rising Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz, extends an invitation into his academy in Spain. Additionally, the documentary steps into the world of the aspiring British star, Jack Draper, at his home in London, where he shares his aspirations of becoming a true contender.
This revealing documentary delves into the lives, characters, and intense rivalries of a fresh group of young players who are stepping into the limelight. Through a captivating blend of exclusive insights from the players themselves, wisdom from the coaches guiding them, and reflections from former tennis greats, Young Guns offers an unparalleled look at how rising stars like Coco Gauff, Holger Rune, Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu battle to reach the pinnacle of world tennis.
Featuring a combination of exclusive interviews, archive material and match footage, the documentary also sheds light on the unique challenges faced by this emerging generation of players. From the immense societal pressure intensified by the era of social media obsession to the demands of a highly competitive field, Young Guns captures the essence of the sport’s evolution. Former players and tennis legends Pat Cash, Greg Rusedski and Annabel Croft all reflect on how things have changed since their time on the court.
Managing Director of Content, ITN and executive producer, Ian Rumsey said: “We’re enormously proud of our first sports documentary and that it will be broadcast on Sky Documentaries and Sky Showcase. Sky’s reputation for sports programming is second to none and we hope Young Guns is just the beginning of our creative relationship with the team.”
Executive Producer, Andy Dunn said: “It’s such an exciting time in the tennis world and securing unique access for this premium documentary was essential. Tennis stars are always on the move, so we travelled to Monaco, Spain and around the UK to interview players and their coaches in situ to bring the atmosphere of the sport to life.”
