Jason Bentley, a Los Angeles-based music executive with extensive experience as radio host and DJ, A&R director, and music supervisor for film and TV has joined independent record label Thrive Music as President of Licensing and Soundtracks for a new division of the company dedicated to sync services. It was announced today by Thrive Music founder Ricardo Vinas.
In his new role, Bentley is responsible for business development in the sync space, pursuing opportunities for Thrive Music in feature film, TV, advertising, and video games, advancing Thrive’s storied history releasing exceptional film soundtracks, including Gaspar Noe’s cult classic Irreversible, Darren Aronovsky’s PI and Chriostopher Nolan’s Memento. Bentley will work alongside Thrive distribution partners at Virgin Music Group to acquire and elevate soundtrack properties with insightful music solutions amplified by Thrive’s marketing expertise.

Bentley served as music director of tastemaker NPR affiliate KCRW radio for over a decade, leading the station’s music department and managing their on-air staff. Concurrently, Bentley hosted KCRW’s acclaimed daily music program “Morning Becomes Eclectic” for eleven years, and continues to host and produce the weekly dance music mix show “Metropolis” every Saturday night for the station.
In the record business, Bentley has worked as an A&R executive for Island Records, Maverick Records, and produced projects for various artists including the Bob Marley estate, Madonna, and Depeche Mode, as well as special projects for Universal Music Group, Geffen, and Warner Brothers. As a music supervisor for film, he notably produced the Grammy nominated soundtrack for The Matrix (Warner Bros), as well as Tron Legacy (Disney) with Daft Punk, and most recently served as music consultant for Top Gun: Maverick (Paramount).
Additionally, he has been a featured DJ at major music festivals over the years, including Coachella five times, Electric Daisy Carnival, HARD, and Lightning in a Bottle among others, and has served as anchor host for the official Coachella festival live stream for six years.
