23 April 2024 – “Do you really want something fun?” This question opens the zany teaser trailer for The 8 Show, a thrilling new Netflix series that follows eight individuals trapped in a mysterious 8-story building, participating in a high-stakes show where the prize money goes up the longer they stay.

Already attracting attention for its impressive cast, The 8 Show unveiled character posters that offer a first look at the contestants: Ryu Jun-yeol on floor 3, Chun Woo-hee on 8, Park Jeong-min on 7, Lee Yul-eum on 4, Park Hae-joon on 6, Lee Zoo-young on 2, Moon Jeong-hee on 5 and Bae Seong-woo on 1, with each number serving as their identifier throughout the series.

Introducing the Contestants

“3” (Ryu Jun-yeol) is a contestant who, after falling victim to fraud and losing everything, finds a lifeline in an invitation to “The 8 Show.” With nothing left to lose and a significant hourly wage on offer, he seizes what could be the opportunity of his lifetime.

“8” (Chun Woo-hee) is a free-spirited and unpredictable participant who joined not just for the money but for the entertainment. Her capricious nature and the euphoria she experiences in the show add a unique dynamic to the series.

“7” (Park Jeong-min) is the brains of the group, the first to decipher the game’s demands and strategize solutions, establishing himself as a pivotal player.

“4” (Lee Yul-eum) is both likable and practical, known for her exceptional ability to read people.

“6” (Park Hae-joon) uses physical means to resolve conflicts, adding a layer of tension to the group.

“2” (Lee Zoo-young) is a fierce advocate for fairness, driven by a deep-seated aversion to injustice, which fuels her actions in the game.

“5” (Moon Jeong-hee) serves as the peacemaker, a character who slowly spirals as the game becomes more intense and unforgiving.

“1” (Bae Seong-woo) is the only contestant with a disability. Despite his limited foot mobility, he concentrates on what he can do to keep going.

“The 8 Show” doesn’t require any kind of skills or knowledge; just the contestants’ time. The teaser trailer hints at the randomness and unconnected events within the game — from “3” filming himself eating in front of a camera a.k.a. a ‘mukbang,’ to all contestants rushing in the same direction. Scenes of “8” diving into a waterless pool, “4” covering her mouth in shock, and “5” crying in despair suggest a game filled with danger and intensity. The footage of people watching a closed-circuit TV and the 8 logo, symbolizing infinity, amplify the excitement surrounding this mysterious game.

Directed by the visionary Han Jae-rim, The 8 Show is set to captivate audiences worldwide from its premiere on May 17, exclusively on Netflix.
