Robert Abernathy, a prominent figure in Nashville’s Country Music scene, is set to release his highly anticipated album, “Somewhere Around 18,” on January 5th, 2024. This project, three decades in the making, showcases Abernathy’s diverse musical journey, thanks to the collaboration with producer Josh Bright.

Abernathy, a seasoned musician with roots in Nashville’s Broadway entertainment district, draws inspiration from 30 years of life experiences for this 18-track collection. The lead single, “You Can’t Have my Boat,” holds a unique story. Born from Abernathy’s interaction with his 7th-grade students in 2018, the song evolved into a lighthearted anthem about a boat and divorce, resonating with audiences.

The album boasts a variety of musical styles, from bluesy tunes like “A Little Tied Up” to melodic ballads such as “Heaven Has a Radio” and “Daddy’s Shadow.” Abernathy praises producer Josh Bright for creating a tailored sound that complements each track, contributing to the album’s anticipated success.
The collection features collaborations with notable songwriters, with Abernathy highlighting the organic process of co-writing. Notable tracks include “Heaven Has a Radio,” a poignant reflection on family ties, and “Daddy’s Shadow,” a heartfelt exploration of fatherhood.

“Bless the Gun,” a track co-written with Durand Robinson, delves into the effects of an abusive relationship, showcasing Abernathy’s willingness to address challenging subjects through his music.

The album also delivers lighter moments with tracks like “Big Bass Problem,” “Redneck Magic” (Featuring SMO), and “Like She Said She Would,” showcasing Abernathy’s ability to evoke smiles and laughter.

With a range of emotions explored across the 18-song masterpiece, “Somewhere Around 18” promises to leave a lasting impression on Country Music enthusiasts. Originally from the Birmingham, AL area, Robert Abernathy has been playing to audiences all over the country for the past 30 years as a Singer/Songwriter and Country Artist. He is the 2018 Male Alabama Country Artist of the Year recipient along with numerous other awards. With a concert schedule of over 100 shows per year, Robert has been actively performing, writing and releasing singles (over 60), albums (3) and EPS (2) since 2010— several which have made it to #1 in various Indie Radio Publications. As a teacher for 25 years, Robert was a Middle School and High School Science and Physical Education Teacher while playing weekend shows that would allow him to pursue part of his dream as a singer/songwriter. In 2020, Robert began his Nashville residency on Broadway at Tin Roof playing the Tuesday show and Friday afternoon shows each week. After retiring as an educator from the state of Alabama, Robert and his wife moved to Nashville to chase the dream. Since that time, Robert has been a regular on Broadway in the Nashville scene and in the songwriting community.

Robert is the Lead singer of the Eagles Tribute Band, Eagle Sunrise and the Lead singer of the Alabama Tribute Band, Alabama Sunset in addition to his own band, the Robert Abernathy Band. He is a member of the Country Music Association, The Recording Academy (Grammys) and the Nashville Songwriters Association International. His following accolades are below:
