“Tears On the Dancefloor”–co-written by Hannah Boleyn and Sarah de Warren with KSHMR–follows the release of his #1 Indian hip-hop album KARAM, marking his return to dance music. A charged dancefloor anthem, it lifts in all the right places with its layered driving synths and strikes a heartfelt chord with Hannah Boleyn’s mesmerizing vocals.
“Sarah and I were on a writing trip in LA in March,” says Hannah Boleyn. “We’d never worked with KSHMR but after the first session we realized we all had an incredible chemistry as writers. We ended up going out for karaoke after and booking another session in. The morning of the second session I woke up with these lines in my head… I suggested them in the session and they ended up being the opening lines of the chorus… ‘Tears On the Dancefloor’ is about that feeling when you make it to the other side of heartbreak. Knowing that even though letting your walls down meant you got hurt, you also gave yourself a chance at love. That you were brave enough to feel everything.”
“This song has an empowering, vintage disco vibe that I love,” says KSHMR. “I imagined somebody facing hardship and wanting to free themselves from that — by dancing and surrendering to the music. That was my inspiration for the production and overall tone.”
Meanwhile, KSHMR – who just made his return to DJ Mag’s annual Top 100 DJs list at #15– will set off this February on a 14-date North American tour of the continent’s most notable nightclubs kicking off at Echostage in Washington D.C. with dates in Toronto, San Francisco, Chicago, Houston, Brooklyn and two shows in Los Angeles. He tells DJ Mag this past year has been all about “…touring the world and returning to dance music with a new revitalized passion!” 2024 he will continue to do the same.
