Exclusively streaming live boxing events under the aegis of Prime Video Presents Live Boxing, Prime Video has successfully livestreamed some of the most anticipated and explosive boxing matchups in each of its nine installments, starting with its first in April 2022 to the most recent, ninth installment in July of this year. From the professional boxing debut of Tenshin Nasukawa to the bouts of some of boxing’s biggest names like Naoya Inoue (Japan), Murata (Japan), Kenshiro Teraji, Junto Nakatani, Takuma Inoue, and many others, Prime Video now marks the milestone tenth installment with two days of back-to-back boxing action.
Prime Video Boxing 10 creates history by becoming the first ever boxing event in Japan to feature seven title fights, promising to be a must-watch for fight fans. The fight card will feature Tenshin Nasukawa’s first challenge for a regional title as well as seven world title fights, including Junto Nakatani’s defense of his WBC championship and Takuma Inoue defending his WBA title.
“Boxing has been one of the most respected and popular sports in Japan. Our culture plays a pivotal role in the dedication and discipline of these fighters, who train from a young age and hone their craft to etch their names in the history of the sport. With more and more Japanese boxers winning world titles and establishing themselves as top contenders, an even larger audience has started to watch and follow the sport. At Prime Video, we value the significance and impact of the sport as we continue to give impetus and a platform to the fighters in the form of Prime Video Boxing, which is attracting the world’s attention,” said Takashi Kodama, Country Director, Prime Video Japan. “Livestreaming some of the biggest fights, including the title fight between Ryota Murata and Gennady Golovkin, Naoya Inoue’s spectacular title defenses, and the first boxing event at the iconic Tokyo Dome in over 34 years, Prime Video has garnered tremendous love and success for the previous nine installments. As we envision raising the bar further for our milestone Prime Video Boxing 10, we are proud to announce an unprecedented seven world title fights along with Tenshin Nasukawa’s first regional title challenge on the same fight card, making it the first of its kind. This two-day event showcases the best of Japan’s lightweight division, which is fast becoming the most competitive weight division. We would like to thank all the athletes who have participated in the past and the ones preparing for the upcoming events, members of the boxing industry who have worked hard and supported the sport, the audience that has attended the events, and all the Prime members who have watched the livestream on Prime Video.”
“I am very pleased to share the upcoming edition of Prime Video Boxing 10 with you. This year’s two-day event features seven major world title fights and a regional title match for Tenshin Nasukawa—a card that is truly worthy of the 10th edition of this event,” said Tsuyoshi Hamada, President of Teiken Gym. “I believe an event of this scale is unprecedented. Takuma Inoue, Kosei Tanaka, Junto Nakatani, Seigo Yuri Akui, and Anthony Olascuaga will defend their titles, while Kenshiro Teraji and Shokichi Iwata will fight for theirs. Additionally, Tenshin Nasukawa will be competing for a regional title. We have put together a card that will showcase the very best of what boxing has to offer. Please look forward to Prime Video Boxing 10.”
Highlights of Prime Video Boxing 10 on October 13, 2024 (Sunday):
WBA World Bantamweight Champion Takuma Inoue makes his third title defense against former Japanese Bantamweight Champion Seiya Tsutsumi, whom he once faced and defeated in an amateur fight. Two fearless fighters coming off back-to-back wins make for an exciting world title fight.
Former light flyweight champion Kenshiro Teraji moves up to the flyweight division to take on former WBC World Flyweight Champion Cristofer Rosales, known for ending Daigo Higa’s (Japan) 16 consecutive KO wins in Japan. After 15 world fights, the experienced Teraji aims to win his second title in a different weight division, while Rosales seeks to make a comeback.
Having defeated the long-reigning champion Artem Dalakian (Ukraine) in January, before successfully defending his title against Taku Kuwahara (Japan) at Tokyo Dome in May, WBA World Flyweight Champion Seigo Yuri Akui will face off against Thai contender Thananchai Charunphak, who comes into the fight on a 24-match winning streak stretching all the way back to his third outing as a pro, most recently claiming the WBO Asia-Pacific Flyweight title with a win over Japan’s Kento Hatanaka.
Fighting for the WBO World Light Flyweight title, Shokichi Iwata takes on Jairo Noriega, the WBO Latin American titleholder. Coming off four consecutive KO victories, Iwata looks to regain his place among the champions after losing to Jonathan Gonzalez two years ago.
Highlights of Prime Video Boxing 10 on October 14, 2024 (Monday):
Tenshin Nasukawa, who made his debut as a professional boxer last April after achieving an impressive undefeated kickboxing record of 44 wins (28 KOs), will compete for the WBO Asia Pacific Bantamweight title against Gerwin Asilo. Nasukawa is currently ranked number two in the WBA World Bantamweight division, number 12 in the WBC, and number 10 in the WBO, following consecutive KOs (TKOs) in the third and fourth rounds against world-ranked fighters in January and July of this year, respectively. With a perfect record of nine wins (four KOs), Asilo, nicknamed “Gladiator,” will pose tough competition to Nasukawa, who is aiming for a world title challenge in the near future.
Junto Nakatani, who won the WBC World Bantamweight Title in February of this year to achieve three-weight champion status, will face a challenge from Petch Sor Chitpattana, a southpaw who boasts a record of 77 fights with 76 wins (53 KOs) and one loss. He has won 28 consecutive fights (20 KOs) since losing a 12-round decision to Takuma Inoue for the interim WBC World Bantamweight title in December 2018. It will be exciting to see how Nakatani, a versatile southpaw highly regarded as one of the top 10 “pound for pound” fighters, performs against such a formidable opponent.
Kosei Tanaka, who won the WBO World Super Flyweight title in February and achieved his long-cherished dream of becoming a four-division champion, will make his first defense against the undefeated Phumelele Cafu. Tanaka was originally scheduled to make his first defense in July, but the match was canceled due to the disqualification of his opponent.
Anthony Olascuaga, who claimed the WBO World Flyweight Title in July, will make his first defense against former WBO World Light Flyweight Champion Jonathan Gonzalez. Olascuaga, known for his aggressive fighting style, will be fighting in Japan for the fourth consecutive time. And Gonzalez, a skilled fighter and familiar face to Japanese fans, has fought twice in Japan before. Olascuaga vs Gonzalez serves as an interesting match-up of skilled fighters hungry for success.
