July 22, 2024—Today, Prime Video announced The House of the Spirits, an upcoming eight-episode Original series based on Isabel Allende’s best-selling homonymous book. With over 70 million copies sold, it is considered one of the most important novels of the 20th century, and had a previous film adaptation in 1993. Isabel Allende and Eva Longoria will be part of the production as executive producers, along with showrunners Francisca Alegría, Fernanda Urrejola, and Andrés Wood.
The series will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories worldwide.
The all-star international cast will include Alfonso Herrera (Sense 8, Ozark), Dolores Fonzi (Blondi, Somos Belén), Nicole Wallace (Culpa Mía, Skam), Juan Pablo Raba (Narcos, News of a Kidnapping), Fernanda Castillo (El Señor de los Cielos, Isla Brava), and more to be announced.
The series will be filmed entirely in Spanish, set in Chile, and produced by FilmNation, the latest Palme d’Or Award-winning team (Anora, Promising Young Woman), with the support of Fabula, the Chilean Academy Award-winning producer (The Eternal Memory, A Fantastic Woman).
The House of the Spirits is a magnificent family saga that tells the epic tale of a proud and passionate family, secret loves, and bloody revolution. The Trueba family’s passions, struggles, and secrets span a century of violent social change, culminating in a crisis that hurls the proud, tyrannical patriarch and his beloved granddaughter towards opposite sides of the fence.
