2023 Siena International Photo awards for Post photojournalists

Announcement from Deputy Director of Photo Presentation Sandra Stevenson, Deputy Director of Photography Dudley Brooks and Deputy Director of Photography Robert Miller:

We are pleased to announce that Washington Post photojournalist Michael Robinson Chavez has received the 2023 Px3 Prix de la Photographie Paris for Photographer of the Year. The award strives to promote the appreciation of photography, discover emerging talent and introduce photographers from around the world to the artistic community of Paris.

Michael was awarded Gold in Press/War and first place in Press for his emotive work titled “Imperium: Ukrainians Endure.” The photographs are from two reporting trips to Ukraine in 2022 – the first before the war and the second during its first couple of months. The work is primarily from the southern area of the country including Mykolaiv and Odessa. One photo of a bread line was taken in Lviv, where thousands of displaced people ended up living to escape the brutality of the conflict in the east.

Please join us in congratulating Michael on this well-deserved recognition.
