Nicolás Rivero joins The Post as a Climate Solutions reporter

Announcement from Climate and Environment Editor Zachary Goldfarb, Climate and Environment Deputy Editor Juliet Eilperin and Climate Solutions Editor Ana Campoy:

We are pleased to announce that Nicolás Rivero is joining The Post as a Climate Solutions reporter.

He will write for our Climate Solutions vertical, reporting on the ways humanity is working to address the planet’s most vexing and profound environmental problems. In this role, Nico will use a variety of storytelling formats to help readers better understand the emergence of a new age of climate solutions, unpacking their promise as well as pitfalls and trade-offs.

Nico comes to us from the Miami Herald, where he covered climate change in South Florida. During his time there, he wrote a series about the impact of extreme heat on outdoor workers. After it was published, local officials introduced a bill to create the first set of workplace heat protections in Florida. He also reported on local climate issues including military efforts to develop super reefs to defend coastal bases and Miami’s love affair with flashy electric cars.

Previously, Nico worked at Quartz, where he reported on technology and worked on newsletters, apps and chatbots.

He graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in journalism and was the Knight Foundation innovator-in-residence at Florida International University’s Department of Journalism & Media.

Nico will be moving to Washington from his hometown of Miami. When temperatures dip below 60 degrees, you’ll be able to find him sheltering in place at home next to the heater and his apartment plants.

Please join us in welcoming him to the newsroom on Oct. 16.
