Published: November 13, 2024 — In a remote village, a mystery begins to unfold when the body of a local woman is discovered buried in a bog.
Starring Dónall Ó Héalai (Monster, Foscadh), Alex Murphy (The Young Offenders) and newcomer Hannah Brady, this new six-part series was filmed on location in County Donegal and starts Sunday 17 November on BBC iPlayer and BBC One Northern Ireland.
Crá is produced by Fíbín Media and Zoogon Ltd for BBC Gaeilge and TG4 with support from Northern Ireland Screen’s Irish Language Broadcast Fund, Screen Ireland, Coimisiún na Meán, Gréasán na Meán Skillnet and distributors About Premium Content (APC).
A murder investigation begins when Garda Barry Roche (Alex Murphy) finds a body buried in the bog. In the most personal of cases, Garda Conall Ó Súilleabháin (Dónall Ó Héalai) discovers it is his mother, Sabine, who has been missing for 15 years.
Conall is forbidden from working on the case, but is drawn into the investigation by a determined young journalist Ciara-Kate (Hannah Brady), who is using her true-crime podcast to expose the village’s deepest secrets.
The power of modern media is revealed as every twist and turn of the investigation is broadcast to a growing audience through Ciara-Kate’s podcast.
As Conall and Ciara-Kate unravel the truth, they must confront a close-knit community bound by silence and its own moral codes. Will truth prevail or do some secrets stay buried forever?
Supporting Dónall, Alex and Hannah are a talented ensemble including Barry McGovern (Obituary), Róisín Murphy (Vikings), Tara Breathnach (Borderline, Dune2), Caoimhe Farren (The Woman in the Wall), and Alan Mahon (King Frankie).
The series was written by Doireann Ní Chorragáin and Richie Conroy (Fran the Man), directed by award-winning filmmaker Philip Doherty (Redemption of a Rogue), and produced by Ciarán Charles for Fíbín Media.
The Executive Producers are Darach Ó Tuairisg for Fíbín Media, Karen Kirby for BBC Northern Ireland and Máire Ní Chonláin for TG4.
Crá – an Irish language series with English subtitles – starts Sunday 17 November at 10.30pm on BBC iPlayer and BBC One Northern Ireland. The full series is available to watch on BBC iPlayer after episode one airs on Sunday 17 November.
