The Washington Post’s charitable giving initiative, Helping Hand, has raised more than $1.1 million for Bread for the City, Friendship Place and Miriam’s Kitchen, as part of a three-year partnership with non-profits dedicated to reducing hunger, homelessness and poverty in the D.C. area. In total, The Post raised $350,000 during the 2023 holiday season.
Thanks to the generosity from readers of The Washington Post, these significant contributions helped fund programs for:
- Bread for the City to provide food, clothing, medical care and legal and social services to reduce the burden of poverty.
- Friendship Place to empower individuals experiencing or facing homelessness to rebuild their lives, find homes, get jobs and reconnect with friends, family and the community, permanently.
- Miriam’s Kitchen to engage its guests with healthy, made-from-scratch meals and connect them with personalized social services that help them increase their income, improve their health and obtain a safe, permanent home.
The Robert I. Schattner Foundation donated $150,000 to Helping Hand for a third consecutive year.
Last year, The Post donated nearly half a million dollars toward dedicated advertising space online and in print in addition to editorial recognition of Helping Hand beneficiaries.
