Gulf Coast Records, the label known for cultivating authentic blues talent, proudly presents the highly anticipated album, “Life Is Hard,” by multi-Blues Music Award-winner Mike Zito. Set to drop on February 23, 2024, this soul-stirring collection of blues anthems promises an emotional odyssey unlike any other!
Recorded at the legendary Sunset Sound Studios in Hollywood, California, under the watchful eyes of producers Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith, “Life Is Hard” reflects Mike’s resilience and musical genius. Also, Bonamassa and Smith, the dynamic duo behind the critically acclaimed “Blood Brothers,” reunite with Mike to craft an album that delves deep into the heart of blues and rock.
“Life Is Hard is a complete work of art for me,” declares Mike. “I believe this is the best album I’ve ever made in my life. My wife Laura and I planned this idea of pouring my heart out in music after her death from cancer. Joe, Josh, and the incredible musicians were fully aware of the task at hand. They brought a lot of emotion to the music. I am so proud of this album, and I know Laura would be proud as well.”
The twelve tracks on “Life Is Hard” feature Mike’s originals and his soulful interpretations of blues classics penned by contemporaries like Tinsley Ellis, Walter Trout, Tab Benoit, and Fred James. The album is sprinkled with covers of blues and roots legends such as Little Milton, Stevie Wonder, Reverend Gary Davis, and a blues-worthy rendition of The Guess Who’s classic, “These Eyes.”
