We are excited to share that Martine Powers has won Best Podcast Host in the 2024 Ambie Awards for her work in “The Empty Grave of Comrade Bishop.” The Ambies are presented and voted on by The Podcast Academy, a not-for-profit organization that celebrates excellence in podcasting. The winners were announced Tuesday night during a ceremony in Los Angeles. The Empty Grave was also a nominee for Podcast of the Year and “Post Reports” was nominated in the Best Politics or Opinions Show category for an episode from Dan Rosenzweig-Ziff and former Audio colleague Eliza Dennis about a family torn apart by January 6, 2021.
Martine brought her remarkable storytelling skills to the seven-part series investigating the missing remains of Maurice Bishop and seven of his allies. Bishop was the revered prime minister of Grenada who was executed in a coup in 1983. Days later, the United States invaded the island. Martine’s work in the series is captivating as she deftly navigates guiding listeners through the difficult details of the history and the twists and turns of the reporting. All the while, she thoughtfully reveals why the story speaks to her on a personal level and makes room for reflection and humor. That humanity shines through each episode and propels the series forward.
Martine reported the series with Senior Producer Ted Muldoon and Producer Rennie Svirnovskiy. Ted was able to accept the award last night on Martine’s behalf. This is The Washington Post’s first Ambie.
Please join us in congratulating Martine!
