Mark Selig named Sports assignment editor

Announcement from Sports Editor Jason Murray and Deputy Sports Editor Matt Rennie:

We’re excited to announce that Mark Selig, who has done terrific work as a multiplatform editor on the sports desk, is stepping into a new role as an assignment editor overseeing our coverage of the Commanders, Wizards, Mystics, local women’s college basketball and high school sports.

Since joining The Post in 2017, Mark has filled all roles on our desk, elevating copy for our digital and print platforms. He also coordinated our high school coverage, recruiting and managing a team of part-time writers to cover 300-plus schools across roughly two-dozen sports. One of Mark’s best skills is guiding young writers to produce standout work, as he did on a story on high school basketball players coping with grief. Mark also coordinated our triannual All-Met teams, one of the department’s biggest drivers of subscription conversions. He can also do some writing, whether it’s looking back at what happened to the members of a March Madness Cinderella team or profiling the world’s best pickleball player.

Mark isn’t a stranger to managing NFL coverage. He joined The Post from the Baltimore Sun, where he led award-winning coverage of the NFL and the Baltimore Ravens. Before that, he worked at the Columbia Missourian and the Daily News-Record (Harrisonburg, Va.)

Mark graduated from the University of Maryland and earned a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri.

Please join us in congratulating Mark. He starts his new role Aug. 1.
