Maribel Verdu and Mariela Garriga Lead the Cast of the New Max Original Series “When Nobody Sees Us”
The Shooting Of The Series, Directed By Enrique Urbizu, Begins This Week And Will Take Place In Several Locations In Madrid, Morón De La Frontera (Seville) And Andalusia
• Warner Bros. Discovery announced today that Maribel Verdú (“The Flash”), Mariela Garriga (“Mission Impossible” 7 and 8), Austin Amelio (“Hit Man,” “Fear The Walking Dead”), Ben Temple (“Upon Entry”) and Dani Rovira (“El campeón”) will star in the Max Original drama series WHEN NOBODY SEES US (“Cuando nadie nos ve”), the first Spanish-produced series announced for Max, based on the novel of the same name by Sergio Sarria (published by Espasa). Enrique Urbizu (“No peace for the wicked,” “La caja 507”) directs the eight, fifty-minute episodes of the series created by Daniel Corpas and written by a screenwriting team led by Arturo Ruiz, with the collaboration of José Antonio Valverde, Germán Aparicio and Isabel Sánchez. The series is produced by Zeta Studios for Warner Bros. Discovery in Spain. The shooting of WHEN NOBODY SEES US began this week in Madrid and will continue to run for several months in Morón de la Frontera (Seville) and across other locations in Andalusia and Madrid.
• Synopsis: The plot takes place during Holy Week 2024 in Morón de la Frontera, a town in Andalusia, southern Spain, located adjacent to a local U.S. Army base. Lucía Gutiérrez (Maribel Verdú) portrays a Civil Guard sergeant investigating the unusual suicide of a neighbor and a series of strange events that occur during the first Easter procession. Magaly Castillo (Mariela Garriga) plays a U.S. Army special agent sent to the Morón de la Frontera base to investigate the whereabouts of a missing American soldier who seems to have connections to a mystery linked to Colonel Seamus Hoopen (Ben Temple), head of the base area. The lone military policeman, Sergeant Andrew Taylor (Austin Amelio), accompanies Magaly in her investigations. They soon discover that the two investigations are connected, the case is more complex than they had assumed, involving both Morón residents and American military personnel from the nearby base.

Maribel Verdú: With more than sixty films, Verdú has worked with the best Spanish and international directors in films such as “Y tu Mamá también” (Alfonso Cuarón), “Pan’s Labyrinth” (Guillermo del Toro) and, recently, in the blockbuster “The Flash” (Andrés Muschietti). She began her career at the age of thirteen with director Vicente Aranda, followed by works for other renowned directors as Fernando Trueba, Bigas Luna, Carlos Saura and Francis Ford Coppola. She has been nominated for the Goya eight times, winning the statuette twice for her performances in “Siete Mesas de Billar Francés” by Gracia Querejeta and “Blancanieves” by Pablo Berger. She has also received international awards, such as the Ariel in Mexico and the National Cinematography Award in Spain.
Mariela Garriga: Cuban-born actress, producer and screenwriter Mariela Garriga is currently working with Tom Cruise on the next and last film in the “Mission Impossible” saga “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning II,” with director Christopher McQuarrie, after the world premiere of “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning I” in 2023. She began her career as an actress in Italy and later in Los Angeles, where she has starred in several feature films and featured in several series such as “NCIS” and “Law and Order.” She has also worked in the biopic series “Luis Miguel” and “Bosé.” She also produced and wrote the documentary “E.L.I,” and has several projects in development.
Austin Amelio: Amelio will next be seen in Richard Linklater’s “Hit Man” for Netflix, opposite Glen Powell who also co-wrote the script. The film recently made waves across the festival circuit including the Venice International Film Festival, TIFF, the New York Film Festival and most recently Sundance. It will debut worldwide on the platform on June 7, 2024. The film marks the second time Amelio has collaborated with Linklater; the first project being “Everybody Wants Some!!” which premiered at SXSW in 2016 and was considered Amelio’s breakout role. He is also known for his acclaimed role in AMC’s “The Walking Dead” as well as the spinoff series “Fear The Walking Dead,” the latter of which recently debuted its eighth and final season in 2023.
Ben Temple: Temple is an American actor who has developed his career between New York, Los Angeles and Madrid. He has worked with actors such as Jeff Goldblum, Randy Quaid, Harvey Keitel, Juliette Binoche, Shirley MacLaine and Benicio del Toro, and with directors such as Fernando León, Isabel Coixet and Milos Forman. His most outstanding works in Spanish television include “The Time in Between,” “Crematorium,” “Hermanos,” “Cazadores de Hombres,” “La fuga” and “The Ministry of Time.” In film, his performances in “Goya’s Ghosts,” (REC) and his leading role in “I Want to be a Soldier,” for which he was nominated for the Actors Union Awards as Best Actor in a Leading Role. In recent years he has starred in “Rifkin’s Festival” (Woody Allen), “It Snows in Benidorm” (Isabel Coixet), “What Lucía Saw” (Imanol Uribe) and “Upon Entry” (Alejandro Rojas and Juan Sebastián Vasquez). In series, recent highlights are “La Fortuna” (Movistar+), “Now and Then” (Apple TV), “30 Coins” (HBO Max) and “The English” (BBC).
Dani Rovira: Rovira is an actor and stand-up comedian. He began his career in 2004 on TV doing stand-up comedy. Formats like “El Club de la comedia” took him on tour throughout Spain. In 2014 he made his film debut with “Spanish affair,” a film that became the highest-grossing in the history of Spanish cinema and for which he won the Goya for best newcomer. It was followed in 2015 by well known titles like “100 Meters,” “Superlopez,” “Taxi to Treasure Rock,” “Mediterraneo: The Law of the Sea,” and has worked as voice actor on several animation movies. Now, he has some upcoming project both locally and internationally. He has presented the Goya Awards Gala on three occasions, between 2015 and 2017.
