Kat Orlando Releases New EP ”Mindset”

Kat Orlando Releases New EP ''Mindset''

She’s the Queen of Sax in Detroit. The moody, funky, gritty notes that Kat plays on her venerable woodwind instrument have energized the stages of nightclubs and festivals across Detroit for decades. She is a remarkable artist and entertainer while spanning over multiple music genres. She can lay down a heavy funk melody that will mesmerize an audience, then bust out with some rock music, and then easily shift to pop, soul, or jazz. Her musical versatility and repertoire appeal to a wide range of music lovers.

Kat Orlando is a hidden treasure. Her latest EP release is called “MINDSET”. Kat taps into a Rick James dance funk groove with “Not That Guy”. “Are you (The Healer)” is a social commentary rock-ish song. She does an adventurous cover of the Turtle’s 60’s song “You Showed
Me”, with a sexy guitar groove. Then enter into the 60’s Hippy era “Summer of Love” mood with Donovan’s “Hurdy Gurdy Man”, with an acoustic slant, which reaches full out Gospel mode toward the end. The NEW SINGLE “Not That Guy” is definitely a dance driven track, a very relatable scenario of a woman taking a chance on a relationship, exhilarated and also fearful of the unknown. Once again, Kat returns to Gayle Brannan, who produced her previous EP “There I said It”, capturing the psyche and spirit of Kat’s Detroit musical DNA.

Her love of music started at the tender age of 4, listening to the radio and 45’s her Grandmother and Aunt would give her from the jukeboxes at their restaurants. Later, fascinated with the talents of artists like Herbie Mann, Jethro Tull, and Traffic, she began taking lessons and playing the flute at the age of 15. She was also being influenced by the singing of Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, and Grace Slick. She studied with Denver Jazz Bebop Sax Player, George Keith. As as
songwriter she is heavily influenced by Stevie Wonder and Prince.

Kat’s 6 album and EP releases, Happenstance: Scenario II in 2018 and Hypothetical Scenario in 2017, were both produced by Grammy-nominated Maurice “Pirahnnahead” Herd.
Her previous EP “There I Said It” was produced by (gospel-influenced writer and vocalist in his own right) Gayle Brannan. Kat’s songs are currently on all major online outlets.

Kat has an unmistakable voice and phrasing all her own. She expresses all emotion and attitude while addressing subjects of love and social issues of today. As a performer, she is totally high energy, switching from lead vocals to sax, flute and harmonica with dancer’s moves at every beat.

Kat is at moment in her life where most people her age are retired or contemplating retirement. Yet, like her, idol Tina Turner, she has all the energy needed to belt out sweaty beat pulsating
songs. Time is precious when it comes to the task of letting songs out of her room and into the world. She realizes time and time again: it always comes back to the music.
