Kaitlin Cassady – Home Away from Home: A 12-Part Panorama of Indie Folk Rock Candour

Kaitlin Cassady’s debut album, Home Away from Home, is a 12-part chronicle of what it means to lean into yourself, caress the unhealed scars, and find bitter-sweet beauty within the melancholy.

Crafted in her Oakland apartment with some production support from her father in Minneapolis, the album echoes the raw, unfiltered essence of artists like Aimee Mann, Kacey Musgraves, and Phoebe Bridgers while exhibiting the authenticity in Cassady’s narratively immersive songwriting style, which sweeps the listener into panoramas of candour.

This indie folk-rock anthology melds growing pains with Cassady’s tender, resonant songwriting, reminiscent of Morrissey’s emotive narratives. Each track articulates deep-seated feelings through richly textured soundscapes that blend elements of country, jazz, and melodic rock, creating a unique sonic footprint in the indie folk-rock tradition. Her voice, an emblem of ethereal reverie, becomes a compass as you navigate the minimalist soundscapes which know exactly how to leave an imprint on your mind, body and soul.

Notable guest appearances include Thad Polk on lead guitar for Happy for You and Julia Floberg on cello for For The Worse and Start Over Again, amplifying the album’s complexity and glimmers of intimate warmth. Cassady’s wide range of musical influences, from Elliott Smith to Norah Jones, heightens the crossover appeal of the album where every cut is as deep as the last.

Having already garnered over 15,000 streams on her debut single, feature articles, and local radio airplay in Minnesota, Cassady has distinguished herself within the musical landscape, marking significant milestones early in her career.

Kaitlin Cassady said:

“Home Away from Home features a collection of songs written about love, loss, addiction and mental health. The songs were written after I moved away from my hometown, Minneapolis, for the first time to grad school in Ann Arbor in 2014; not knowing anybody in the city, I started a new chapter in my life and embarked on an era of self-discovery.

Amelia Vandergast, Executive Editor at A&R Factory said:

“Cassady reached the pinnacle of evocatively affecting with Home Away from Home; the way the melodies cradle the psyche as the lyricism attests to the universal nature of intimate thoughts is a clear sign the airwaves have become host to a new songwriting luminary.”
