Jill Desiree Releases New Song “The Rain Can Fall” —

A Soulful, Stormy Reflection on Longing and Melancholy

December 4, 2024 – Los Angeles, CA – Singer-songwriter Jill Desiree has unveiled her latest single, “The Rain Can Fall,” a reflective and hauntingly beautiful piece inspired by the rain-filled winters of Sydney, Australia. This new song, available on all major streaming platforms, blends elements of soul, jazz, and R&B, capturing Desiree’s vision of solitude, longing, and resilience against the backdrop of endless rainy days.

“The Rain Can Fall” transports listeners to those quiet, rain-soaked moments when Desiree, single and living in Australia, would sit by her windowsill, envisioning a comforting presence beside her. “I was inspired by the idea of someone who could make me feel warm and safe during those storms,” she shares. “I wanted the song to convey that sense of calm amid the chaos, with a blend of melancholy and optimism.” The song strikes a delicate balance between minor and major harmonies, drawing on both classic and modern influences to create a rich, emotive atmosphere.

The production process behind “The Rain Can Fall” was an intricate journey that spanned years. After refining the arrangement with producer David Olivas, Desiree worked with an impressive roster of musicians to bring the song to life. Jordan Perlson, a former Berklee colleague, joined on drums, bringing an unexpectedly creative depth to the track, while Kent Moore’s innovative bass performance added a compelling layer of intensity. “I loved the tones Kent achieved; each sound was so personal,” Desiree remarks. The final touches came with Mitch Forman’s evocative Rhodes piano, which, combined with Perlson’s cymbals, evoked the song’s signature “stormy” vibe, and a powerful alto sax solo from Grammy-winning saxophonist Eric Marienthal, whose contributions amplified the song’s emotional climax.

Desiree’s vocal arrangements, inspired by Mariah Carey’s “Fourth of July” and Alicia Keys’ “A Woman’s Worth,” feature intricate call-and-response sections, harmonies, and melismas that add depth to her powerful R&B voice. Known for her emotionally rich performances and international background, Desiree has crafted a sound that blends her love for classic soul and jazz with modern, innovative stylings, as showcased in her debut EP, “Cover Story.”

Drawing from life experiences across Australia, Indonesia, and her studies at Berklee College of Music, Jill Desiree channels the spirit of legends like Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, and Whitney Houston while infusing her own voice into every note.

A recent recipient of the Best Jazz Award at the 29th Annual USA Songwriting Competition for her single “Broken”, Desiree continues to captivate audiences with her artistry.

Stream “The Rain Can Fall” on Spotify, Apple Music, and other major streaming platforms on December 8, and follow Jill Desiree on social media to stay updated on upcoming releases and live performances.
