Lead Detective in Case Reveals Why His Team Didn’t Dispute Online Theories about Lee’s Murder; Click Here to Watch Preview
“Under the Bay Bridge” Airs Friday, February 7, 2025
February 5, 2025 – This Friday at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT, Dateline NBC will air an all-new report on the murder of tech titan Bob Lee. During the two-hour broadcast, family, friends, attorneys, police and colleagues from the tech industry speak out exclusively to Dateline’s Josh Mankiewicz about the case that made headlines around the world.
During “Under the Bay Bridge,” San Francisco Police Sergeant Brent Dittmer reveals that his team chose not to publicly dispute any theories that Lee was a victim of a robbery, even though he believed early on that the person responsible for Lee’s murder wasn’t after his money. He tells Mankiewicz, “If that’s the story people are gonna run with, that is an advantage for us because the people who are responsible, we don’t want to know what we know.” He continued, “Let everybody think that this is whatever’s on Twitter at that time. We’ll work on what actually happened.”
Lee’s former wife also had a hard time believing he was robbed, explaining, “Had Bob been approached by someone that was trying to mug him, he would’ve given him, them, the shirt off his back, his wallet, his keys, his clothes. He would’ve said, ‘Hey, man, let me buy you a meal. Please don’t hurt me.’”

Friday’s episode features an in-depth look at the timeline leading up to Lee’s murder, extensive and dramatic surveillance video, and exclusive interviews with his brother and children, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins and more.
In December, Nima Momeni, a Bay Area IT consultant, was found guilty of second-degree murder for killing Lee.
