Indie-Folk Band The Secret Trails Unveils Debut Single "Old State Street"

The Secret Trails, an indie-folk/Americana band hailing from the heart of Arizona, is thrilled to announce the release of their debut single, “Old State Street.” This captivating track serves as a prelude to their self-titled debut EP, set to be unveiled one song at a time in the coming months. The Secret Trails have taken a bold step into the music world with a compelling narrative that is both deeply personal and universally resonant.

“Old State Street” was expertly produced at the renowned Cartoon Moon studio in Nashville, Tennessee, under the skilled guidance of Ken Coomer, a founding member of the iconic band Wilco and a gifted producer in his own right. The EP features a collective of talented artists who have graced the stage alongside Americana greats like Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams, and John Prine, promising a rich, soul-stirring musical experience.

The inspiration behind “Old State Street” runs deep within the band’s roots. The song’s creator shares a profound connection to the story, explaining that it draws inspiration from the history of their family. Their great-grandfather and much of their maternal grandfather’s lineage journeyed from Oklahoma to the western United States during the early 20th century. These resilient ancestors endured the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression, eventually finding their way to central and southern California. The maternal grandfather settled in Santa Barbara, CA, where the writer’s mother was born and raised. The connection to one of the main streets in downtown Santa Barbara, State Street, holds a special place in Orr’s heart.

The journey to “Old State Street” began when Orr stumbled upon an online forum dedicated to “memories of old State Street.” This digital treasure trove contained old photographs, stories, and the recollections of people who reminisced about downtown Santa Barbara in the mid-1900s. Orr found himself reflecting on these memories, juxtaposing them with the hardships of the Dust Bowl era when much of the midwestern U.S. was over-farmed and stripped of its vitality and sustainability.

This introspective journey led the songwriter to ponder profound questions about our world and its future. “Old State Street” ultimately becomes a poignant metaphor for seeking simplicity and harmony with the natural world. Through their music, The Secret Trails express the hope that we can learn from our past mistakes and strive for a more balanced relationship with the environment. The song may tackle somber themes, but it’s ultimately a beacon of hope, highlighting the urgent importance of embracing a harmonious coexistence with the natural world.

“Old State Street” is more than just a song; it’s a heartfelt exploration of the human experience, a touching tribute to family history, and a call to action for a more sustainable and harmonious future. The Secret Trails invite music lovers to join them on this extraordinary journey as they prepare to unveil their debut EP, one thought-provoking track at a time.
