‘GMA’ Grows Week to Week in Both Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49

Season to Date, ‘GMA’ Stands as the No. 1 Morning Newscast in Total Viewers for the 11th Consecutive Year and Slashes Its Season Margin With ‘Today’ in Adults 25-54 to Its Closest Performance in 8 Years

“Good Morning America” ranked as the morning’s No. 1 newscast in Total Viewers (2.884 million) during the week of Sept. 5, 2023, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “GMA” beat NBC’s “Today” (2.728 million)by 156,000 Total Viewers.

“GMA” posted week-to-week gains in Adults 25-54 (+5% – 618,000 vs. 589,000) and Adults 18-49 (+4% – 395,000 vs. 379,000).

Season to date, “GMA” (3.156 million) is ranking as the No. 1 morning newscast in Total Viewers for the 11th consecutive year. “GMA” is leading “Today” (2.819 million) by 337,000increasing its lead from the same point last season (+42%; vs. 237,000) to its largest in 8 years ― since the 2014-2015 season.

In addition, “GMA” is slashing its season margin with “Today” in Adults 25-54 versus the same point last season (-65% – 11,000 vs. 31,000) to its closest performance in 8 years ― since the 2014-2015 season.

During the week, “GMA” (2.884 million, 618,000 and 394,000, respectively) defeated “CBS Mornings” (2.155 million, 459,000 and 278,000, respectively) in Total Viewers (+729,000), Adults 25-54 (+159,000) and Adults 18-49 (+117,000).

NOTE: On Monday (9/4/23), “Good Morning America,” “CBS Mornings” and “Today” were coded as specials due to Labor Day.  In addition, “Good Morning America” was retitled to “GMA-ABC” on Tuesday (9/5/23) and Friday (6/8/23).  The specialed and retitled telecasts are excluded from the week and season averages.  ABC’s weekly averages are based on two days (Wednesday-Thursday), while CBS’ and NBC’s weekly averages are based on four days (Tuesday-Friday).  

Emmy Award-winning “GMA,” featuring the anchor team of Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Michael Strahan and chief meteorologist Ginger Zee, airs live Monday-Friday (7:00-9:00 a.m. EDT) on ABC. Simone Swink is the executive producer.
