Gladiators is set to return to the BBC

Gladiators, the most exciting and iconic sports entertainment show, made by Hungry Bear Media and MGM Alternative UK will return to the BBC.

The hotly anticipated show gripped the nation and quickly became the biggest entertainment launch for a new series in seven years with 28 day figures showing that 9.8m viewers watched the first episode, with the series averaging 8.3 million viewers to date.

The hugely successful first series hosted by Bradley and Barney Walsh saw 16 new superhuman Gladiators: Sabre, Legend, Nitro, Diamond, Phantom, Athena, Bionic, Fire, Giant, Dynamite, Viper, Electro, Apollo, Comet, Steel and Fury quickly become household names as viewers cheered on their favourites as they competed against Contenders in iconic events such as Duel and Powerball, culminating in the iconic Eliminator.

Gladiators (11 x 60’) is a Hungry Bear Media and MGM Alternative UK production for BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The show was commissioned by Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment at the BBC. The Executive Producers are Dan Baldwin and Lou Brown for Hungry Bear Media and Dom Bird and Barry Poznick for MGM Alternative. The Commissioning Editor for the BBC is Clodagh O’Donoghue.

The UK series was developed by Hungry Bear Media, whilst the original American Gladiators series was created by Johnny C. Ferraro and Dan Carr.

The final of Gladiators in on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Saturday 30 March at 5.50pm, the series is available on BBC iPlayer.

• An average audience of 6.0m tuned in to the first episode on launch night, making it the biggest launch for a new entertainment series since 2017* (Let It Shine in Jan 2017 with 6.3M)

• As well as phenomenal numbers for young viewing, with kids making up a fifth of the audience at 1.8M

• iPlayer has accounted nearly 40% of all the Gladiators viewing to date
