September Marks FBN’s Second Highest Rated Month of the Year in Primetime with Total Viewers
NEW YORK – September 28, 2021 – FOX Business Network’s (FBN) market-open program Varney & Co. (weekdays, 9 AM – 12 PM/ET) hosted by Stuart Varney’s along with Larry Kudlow’s eponymous Kudlow (weekdays, 4 PM/ET), closed out the quarter placing among the top 10 business programs in television, according to Nielsen Media Research.
Averaging 213,000 total viewers, Varney & Co. remains the network’s top-rated program, ushering in month-to-month gains of 35 percent with Adults 25-54. Following with 192,000 total viewers, Kudlow was the network’s second highest-rated program, which also scored a record high this quarter for the show, besting CNBC’s Closing Bell the past six out of seven weeks in total viewers. Liz Claman’s market-close program The Claman Countdown (weekdays, 3 PM/ET) also notched its best quarter of the year in the 25-54 demo and nabbed 134,000 total viewers. Along with Neil Cavuto’s CAVUTO: Coast to Coast (weekdays, 12-2 PM/ET), Elizabeth MacDonald’s The Evening Edit (weekdays, 6 PM/ET), Making Money with Charles Payne (weekdays, 2 PM/ET), FOX Business Tonight (weekdays, 5 PM/ET), Maria Bartiromo’s Mornings with Maria (weekdays, 6-9 AM/ET) and Kennedy (Monday through Thursdays, 8 PM/ET), FBN delivered nine of the top 20 business shows on television. During Q3 of 2021, FBN’s Business Day programming (9:30 AM-5 PM/ET) delivered 164,000 total viewers, while the network’s Market Hours programming (9 AM-4 PM/ET) netted 162,000 total viewers.
Additionally, the launch of FBN Prime, the network’s new primetime programming slate which debuted on September 20th, ushered in 55 percent growth during the 8PM-11PM hours week over week, marking its second highest rated month of the year with total viewers. Notably, How America Works (Mondays, 8 PM/ET) narrated by Mike Rowe beat its CNBC competition head on during the launch week, netting 236,000 total viewers compared to Shark Tank’s 132,00 total viewers. Despite airing Olympic programming throughout primetime, CNBC delivered two-year lows for the quarter in the coveted demo of persons aged 25-54.
Delivering six of the top 20 programs in median income, FBN continues to place among the top cable news networks in affluence among the A25-54 demographic for the month. These programs include Barron’s Roundtable (Fridays, 9 PM/ET), Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street (Fridays, 8 PM/ET), CAVUTO: Coast to Coast, Kennedy, FOX Business Tonight, and WSJ at Large with Gerry Baker (Fridays, 9:30 PM/ET) which all had audiences with a median income over $108,000 this month. Notably, Barrons Roundtable’s audience ranked first in business news with a median income of $174,800 in September 2021.
FBN’s strong performance continued on the digital front, with FOXBusiness.com seeing a 9 percent increase in total page views quarter over quarter and a 12 percent growth in unique devices compared to Q2 2021. Additionally, FOX Business was the number one network on YouTube among business video news, pacing 278 percent ahead of the business news competitive set, besting CNBC and Bloomberg.
