Daisy Press Releases New Single "Rubor Sanguinis"

July 26, 2024 —Daisy Press, the dynamic and innovative vocalist known for her contributions to experimental, pop, and classical music, is thrilled to announce the release of the single, “Rubor Sanguinis.” This enchanting track, an unusual arrangement of a 12th-century chant written by the sainted polymath Hildegard of Bingen, is now available on all streaming platforms.

“Rubor Sanguinis,” an evocative chant that Hildegard wrote for St.Ursula, unfolds like the vivid narrative of a Steven King horror story, with the stark and mystical image of copious amounts of blood from the martyr St. Ursula and her companions, flowing down from heaven. “You are the flower,” says Hildegard to Ursula, “who survives the winter of the serpent’s breath.”

Daisy Press’ interpretation of Hildegard’s chant is further enriched by the collaborative efforts of her long-term friend and co-arranger, Nick Hallett, who brings a brilliant harmonic structure to the piece with his Wurlitzer keyboard. Hallett’s chord progression infuses the chant with a beautiful pop sensibility and mesmerizing auditory experience, reminiscent of Joni Mitchell’s “Woodstock.”

Raised amidst the vibrant backdrop of an international rock and roll tour, Daisy Press brings a wealth of experience and passion to her music. She is known for her powerful and emotive performances in both the United States and Europe, where she has carved out a unique niche in modern European music.

Daisy Press recently made her major opera debut as the lead role at the Teatro de la Maestranza’s world premiere of Alberto Carretero’s La Bella Susona in Seville, Spain, earning unanimous praise from the Spanish press for her captivating performance. She regularly collaborates with prestigious ensembles such as Klangforum Wien, Phace, and the Aleph Guitar Quartet, interpreting and performing the works of renowned modern composers at major venues and festivals.

Her versatility extends beyond classical and experimental music. At Brooklyn’s notorious House of Yes, she serves as singer-in-residence, creating virtuosic, ecstatic, and transcendent performances with aerialists and circus artists. In the pop world, Daisy has served as the lead backing singer and dancer for Chromeo, appearing on shows like Letterman, Conan, Fallon, and at major festivals including Lollapalooza and Coachella.

Over her 20-year career, Daisy has maintained a deep connection with the 12th-century mystic Hildegard of Bingen, blending North Indian ragas with Hildegard’s chants to create extraordinary interpretations. Her innovative presentations of Hildegard’s work have been showcased in diverse settings, from German churches to the dust of Burning Man.

With academic credentials from Sarah Lawrence College and the Manhattan School of Music, and ongoing studies with notable teachers, Daisy Press continues to push the boundaries of vocal performance.

Her second solo album, a 2 CD set, will be released in summer 2025.
