In front of you is that taut wire, spanning across some dystopian abyss, daring you to step out onto it. On some days the distance from beginning to end of the wire doesn’t seem so far. Yet on other days the morning mist hangs dim and hazy, obscuring your vision. When a journalist talks about a high wire artist it refers to someone that is daring, unconventional, courageous and compelling…In the spirit of that, Randy Edelman is set to unveil a collection of unique, compelling and beautiful songs in a new full length album called “Waltzing On A High Wire” via Tribeca Records. The album will launch on September 6, 2024. The music will also be released on a vinyl CD and a double vinyl record set, limited edition.
Written, recorded and produced by the composer himself, the album experiences a mélange of genres from jazz to country, and even a classical lullaby. In this album (as all of those before) Randy commands that pure spark of musical sensibility that can flash for an instant and spawn a symphony or a song.
“Waltzing On A High Wire is a group of highly personal tunes written over the past several years. Though of course there are various subject matters I felt the need to confront: there is also the very deliberate aspect of a distinct musical style to each that is purposely designed to be different in terms of harmony and the specific feel which I approached each track in addressing. For instance, in looking at the opening three tracks: from the complex harmonic progressions and 40’s feel of ‘21 Again’ and the look back at life….to the simplistic 60’s R&B 6/8 ‘Do-Wop’ style tune about non-communication called ‘Pat Wants to Know’ ….or the folksy way that ‘Birds of Freedom’ addresses a general connection to world humanistic events.”…..Randy Edelman
Regardless of how one chooses to celebrate his music it is evident that he needed a spare heart to feel all of the things he felt. When perception and sensitivity meet, a breathtaking and colorful world is created. He took his pain and made it into something beautiful. He knocked on silence for an answering music. His intensity is the trademark for those truly alive and compassionate. His music and his sensitivity is the fabric of what keeps dreams real.
THE ACTUALITY OF RANDY EDELMAN
Whilst shrouded in mystery and locked behind closed doors for 25 years ( in which he wrote no songs at all), Randy created some of the most heroic magic on the silver screen with over 100 soundtracks for film and television including “My Cousin Vinny”, “Kindergarten Cop”, “Gettysburg”, “While You Were Sleeping”, “The Mask”, “Dragonheart”, “Ghostbusters ll”, “Last of The Mohicans” (which earned him a Golden Globe nomination), the hit TV series “MacGyver” and a marathon of others.
His foray into the pop song recording world was triggered many years ago by the emotions of a break up. Since then his songs have been covered by Barry Manilow (A Weekend In New England), Patti LaBelle (Isn’t It A Shame), HipHop superstar Nelly (My Place), The Carpenters (You), and others inclusive of Dionne Warwick, Olivia Newton-John, Jackie DeShannon, Willie Nelson, Blood Sweat & Tears, and a Macy‘s Day Parade of others. He’s also written themes for ESPN, the Olympics and NASA. He began his touring career opening for The Carpenters and non other than Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention and has played arenas all over the globe including the Budokan in Japan, The London Palladium, and Theatre Royal Drury Lane in the UK.
Randy most recently has just written the soundtracks for Swedish director Ate De Jong’s Nashville saga “Heart Strings”, the family holiday film “Athena Saves Christmas”, the exorcism themed thriller “The Beast Inside” (out this December), and the documentary “Too Hot to Handle.” He currently continues to write and record music and will be performing a solo show at Carnegie Hall on December 8, 2024 and Lincoln Center June 6, 2025.
