18 OCTOBER 2024 (TORONTO, ON) – British band New Hope Club release their latest single and video for “Swimming with Sharks,” out now.
Written by New Hope Club with Ross Golan and Dan Henig, “Swimming with Sharks is a song that was written during a time we were all trying to navigate being single and meeting new people. It can be tough out there,” says the band. “Sometimes it can feel like there is no hope of finding somebody that you can really trust. Dating is like ‘Swimming with Sharks,’ bouncing from one relationship to the next in a wild frenzy. Dating can become a toxic cycle and that’s what we tried to capture in different themes within the song. Because the song is predominantly pop/funk, inspired by a chance encounter with Nile Rodgers, we love playing this one live. We cannot wait to showcase this new track on tour… we just hope there are no sharks in the audience.”
The video, directed by Blake Nelson, is infused with a 90’s Brit pop aesthetic showcasing the band in a raw and gritty light. After a tumultuous night in New York City with the wrong crowd, the band are visibly bruised and blood from the chaos and intensity of what happened the night before.
