BOOM–distributed by The Forge, produced by Scratch Vinyl Films, and written and directed by Jordan Albertsen–chronicles one of rock ‘n’ roll’s wildest and most influential bands: The Sonics. For the first time ever, all original members–Larry Parypa (guitar), Andy Parypa (bass), Rob Lind (saxophone, harmonica), Bobby Bennett (drums), and Jerry Roslie (vocals)–explore how a relatively unknown band from the Pacific Northwest became a worldwide phenomenon 50-years later, shaping music for decades to come. Hailing from Tacoma, Washington, The Sonics’ 1965 debut Here Come The Sonics predated the fever of punk and pushed rock & roll into new places. Featuring interviews with homegrown heroes and breakthrough artists alike, the film features commentary from Kim Thayil of Soundgarden, Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, Nancy Wilson of Heart, Mark Arm of Mudhoney, and many more.

“The Sonics represent more than just a band to me,” says film writer/director Jordan Albertson. “They were my first obsession, rocking harder and faster than anything I’d heard. And they were from the sixties! The music was dangerous. Sexy. It was fucking hard. This was punk rock before punk rock.”

The Seattle premiere event takes place Saturday, September 7, at the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP). Attendees will have the opportunity to exclusively screen the film and take part in a Q&A hosted by Chris Ballew (Presidents of the United States of America) inside the Sound + Vision Theater before a special 60th Anniversary Concert in the museum’s Sky Church, featuring performances from DJ Marco Collins and opening act Girl Trouble before the present-day iteration of The Sonics headline. Tickets to the concert are available here: https://theforge.ticketspice.com/the-sonics-60th-anniversary-concert; only 500 tickets are available for sale.

The Los Angeles premiere event will commence with an exclusive screening that will take place at Beverly Hills Fine Arts Center on Thursday, September 12. There will be an intimate concert and after-party at Harvard & Stone immediately following the screening, hosted by Reserved Magazine and featuring performances from Jessie Hughes (Eagles of Death Metal) and a special surprise guest, with opening act Broken Baby, and DJs Robbie Furze (Big Pink) and Jamie Hince (The Kills). Attendance at the Los Angeles event is by invite only.
