Behind The Scenes: Budget Better Workshop with The Washington Post’s Michelle Singletary

Washington Post personal finance columnist and financial guru Michelle Singletary led a subscriber-exclusive workshop July 29 for the opportunity for this audience to directly ask questions. The subscribers were also able to expand upon the information they read in her biweekly column, The Color of Money, that provides advice on how to save, spend and talk about your money for the short and long term. Michelle has been the personal finance columnist for The Post for over 30 years, educating readers globally about how to best manage their money. This workshop connected her with subscribers directly as they navigate their financial futures.

“Where do you even start with a budget?” “How do you factor in kids’ costs like sports fees?” “How do you get your spouse to care about sticking to a budget?” These were some of the questions posed by subscribers.

“You get to decide what’s important to you. I am not going to tell you ‘you should budget for this, this and that,’ or ‘you should spend your money on this, this and that.’ You get to choose what your financial goals are,” Michelle advised during the workshop. “The best budget is individual to you. So don’t let anybody tell you what you can’t do.”

100 subscribers signed up to join the seminar, learning invaluable knowledge from one of the country’s top financial minds. Missed this session? Make sure to sign up for Michelle’s column and follow her on Instagram and Twitter to stay updated on future events.
