BBC releases trailer for series two of hit thriller The Tourist

Starring Jamie Dornan and Danielle Macdonald

Full of shocking plot twists, intense action and the same off-beat comedy that made series one a success, The Tourist, written by Harry and Jack Williams returns on New Year’s Day

A brand-new trailer has been released for the highly anticipated second series of The Tourist, which sees the return of BAFTA and Golden Globe award nominated Jamie Dornan (Belfast, The Fall) and Danielle Macdonald (Unbelievable, Dumplin’). The six-part thriller is created and written by Harry and Jack Williams and produced by the award-winning Two Brothers Pictures.

Set against the striking backdrop of Ireland, the upcoming series sees Elliot and Helen dragged into a longstanding feud and forced to deal with the consequences of his past actions. After Elliot quickly goes missing, Helen seeks the help of Detective Ruairi Slater (Conor MacNeill, Industry, The Fall), before secrets of Elliot’s past are later uncovered.

Series two introduces a raft of new characters, as shown in the newly released images alongside Detective Ruairi Slater, including Niamh Cassidy (Olwen Fouéré, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Northman) and the McDonnell family – Donal (Diarmaid Murtagh, Vikings, Outlander), Orla (Nessa Matthews, Fair City), Fergal (Mark McKenna, Sing Street, One of Us is Lying), and Frank (Francis Magee, Kin, Then You Run). The images also feature Monsieur Tioté (Réginal-Roland Kudiwu, Crime, The Widow, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan).

Series one of The Tourist was the UK’s most-watched drama of 2022 across all platforms. Internationally, sales for the first series spanned five continents, with the show seen from South Korea to Scandinavia and was crowned the winner of 3 Golden Nymph Awards at the Monte Carlo Television Festival including Best Series, the festival’s highest accolade.

The Tourist series two is a Two Brothers Pictures (an All3Media company) production for the BBC, in association with Stan, ZDF and All3Media International created and written by Harry and Jack Williams (The Missing, Baptiste, Fleabag). Fergus O’Brien (Happy Valley, Gentleman Jack) directed the opening block with Johann Perry (Happy Valley, Gentleman Jack) as DOP, while Lisa Mulcahy (Blood, Years and Years) and Kate Dolan (Kin, You Are Not My Mother) directed blocks two and three respectively. Alex Mercer (Inside Man, Crossfire) is producer, with Louise Kiely (The Banshees of Inisherin, Normal People) as casting director. Executive producers are Harry and Jack Williams (The Missing, Baptiste, The Tourist), Sarah Hammond (Back to Life, Fleabag, The Tourist) and Daniel Walker (Boat Story, The Tourist) for Two Brothers Pictures, with Nawfal Faizullah for the BBC, and Jamie Dornan. International sales will be handled by All3Media international.

The Tourist returns on Monday 1 January 2024 on BBC One and iPlayer. The full series will be available on BBC iPlayer from 6am, ahead of episode one airing at 9pm on BBC One.
