August 19, 2024 — On Friday 23 August (9.30am – 12 noon), as the grand finale of Radio 2’s Let’s Move It – a six week on air initiative to motivate and encourage the nation to get a bit more active this summer – Vernon Kay will broadcast his show live from Rothesay, the home of The Bute Highland Games on the West Coast of Scotland. Vernon has been challenged to toss a caber live on the show so he’s undertaken two weeks of training and preparation, which he’s dubbed his ‘Route To Bute’! He’ll also be inviting two Gladiators from the BBC TV series, Steel and Sabre, to join in the fun, and there will be live music from Scottish singer Tom Walker, as well as hearing from listeners who’ve embraced the Let’s Move It campaign. The Bute Highland Games are held every August and feature traditional games including highland dancing, ‘heavy’ events, shinty, backhold wrestling and more. A BBC Audio production.
Vernon says: “So, on my show on Friday 23 August I’m going to attempt a caber toss for a Highland Games special, live from the Isle of Bute in Scotland! I’d better get training, maybe even get myself a kilt as well as I get ready for my ‘Route to Bute’! If you’d like to join me in getting a little bit fitter then check out www.bbc.co.uk/letsmoveit for some inspiration.”
