Five films backed by BBC Film have been nominated for the prestigious BAFTA Film Awards, with winners to be announced at the awards ceremony on Sunday 18 February.
The Outstanding British Film category includes three BBC Film-backed titles: Raine Allen-Miller’s RYE LANE; Charlotte Regan’s SCRAPPER; and, Ken Loach’s THE OLD OAK. The South London-set rom-com RYE LANE also garnered a Leading Actress nomination for Vivian Oparah. Two BBC Film-backed shorts, FESTIVAL OF SLAPS and SUCH A LOVELY DAY, were also nominated in the British Short Film category.
Eva Yates, Director of BBC Film said: “I couldn’t be happier for the teams behind SCRAPPER and RYE LANE who richly deserve this recognition and are part of a new wave of British debut filmmakers with exciting futures ahead. It’s also fantastic to see Ken Loach’s THE OLD OAK nominated for Outstanding British Film, and wonderful to see Vivian Oparah singled out for her performance in RYE LANE. With two BBC Film shorts, FESTIVAL OF SLAPS and SUCH A LOVELY DAY also nominated, we’re so proud of all the films the BBC has supported this year and sending our warmest wishes to these teams for the ceremony.”
