Published: November 21, 2024 — It’s been quite the year for Sophie Ellis-Bextor, following sold-out tours in Europe, US and Australia supporting Nile Rodgers and Take That, appearing at numerous festivals including performing with Peggy Gou at Glastonbury, the viral return of her dancefloor classic Murder on the Dancefloor and the release of her new single Freedom of the Night; so what better way to round off a sensational 2024 than bringing all the disco fun and energy to New Year’s Eve as BBC One and iPlayer confirms Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s New Year’s Eve Disco (w/t).

Made by BBC Studios Entertainment Productions, the TV event will see Sophie joined on stage by some very special guests.

This glittering TV event promises to be a night to remember as Sophie performs her global hits as well as some surprise numbers. Sophie and her all-star guests will party right into 2025 with plenty of glamour and glitz as the nation gets ready to welcome in the new year. The festivities will continue after BBC One goes live to London for the traditional epic fireworks display.

Sophie revealed the news exclusively on the Scott Mills show on BBC Radio 2.

Jonathan Rothery, Head of Popular Music TV at the BBC says: “BBC Music and BBC One have a long standing tradition of bringing the biggest stars in pop to audiences on New Year’s Eve. We’re thrilled that Sophie Ellis-Bextor, joined by some surprise guests, will be taking us into 2025, rounding off her already hugely successful year.”

Alison Howe, Executive Producer, Entertainment and Music, BBC Studios says: “Dust off your glitter balls and dancing shoes, Sophie is set to light up the dance floor with her feelgood anthems as we welcome in the New Year.”

Special guests joining Sophie on stage will be announced at a later date. Sophie follows on from Rick Astley who brought in 2024 with Sharleen Spiteri, Rylan and The House Gospel Choir. Previous New Year’s Eve acts include Sam Ryder, Years & Years, Alicia Keys and Craig David.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Kitchen Disco is available each week on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds, bringing listeners non-stop feel-good anthems and party classics from the past six decades. In the new year Sophie’s slot will be extended from one to two hours on Friday nights from 9.00-11.00pm.
