Andrew Thoreen Releases New Song "A Mirror Dimly," Blending Christian Apologetics and Artistry

Saint Paul, MN – Independent artist and Christian songwriter Andrew Thoreen announces the release of his new single, A Mirror Dimly. Known for his creative journey through various musical expressions, Thoreen’s latest work integrates his personal beliefs and Christian apologetics, providing an artistic perspective on themes of faith, existence, and self-understanding. The song, mixed by Brett Bullion and mastered by Huntley Miller, represents a significant step in Thoreen’s career as he explores faith-driven content following his conversion to Christianity in 2020.

Thoreen’s interest in Christian apologetics, which examines the logical and reasoned foundations for faith, has grown over recent years. After a decade-long departure from faith and years of skepticism, A Mirror Dimly reflects a renewed perspective, offering a heartfelt message that he hopes would resonate with his younger, questioning self. “This song was born from the idea of expressing why I believe and trust in God. I wanted to create something that would argue for God’s existence while still being relatable and accessible,” says Thoreen.

The inspiration for A Mirror Dimly took shape during the COVID lockdowns. While the original lyrics mirrored the isolation of the pandemic, Thoreen revisited the song over the years to craft a message addressing deeper, more universal themes of faith. The song now serves as his first foray into musical apologetics, speaking to doubts, the concept of purpose, and the cosmological argument for God’s existence.

“One of the most compelling reasons I believe is that modern science has yet to fully explain the universe’s origin. This aligns with the Christian belief of creation ex nihilo, or creation from nothing, as stated in Genesis 1:1,” says Thoreen, who draws from 1 Corinthians 13:12 to further explore the limits of human understanding and the hope of seeing clearly someday.

In A Mirror Dimly, Thoreen also addresses self-deception and the need for a source of truth outside oneself. He reflects on society’s tendency to let feelings and self-perception guide decisions, proposing that aligning with a higher purpose offers stability and meaning beyond “molecules in motion.”

Andrew Thoreen has been called an avant-garde pop traditionalist with outsider art sensibilities. His diverse background includes co-founding the art-pop project Har-di-Har, arranging for songwriter J.E. Sunde, and his current Christian art-song project Alaylon with his wife, Julie. Thoreen and Julie, who reside in Saint Paul, Minnesota with their children, the two collaborate to set biblical texts to music, sharing their faith through creative expression.

Thoreen is also an educator, empowering students to harness their creativity. He continues to arrange, produce, and teach from his home studio, currently on hiatus as a touring artist.

“A Mirror Dimly” marks the beginning of Thoreen’s journey to weave theological themes into his music, hoping to inspire thought and exploration in others. It is now available on all major streaming platforms.
