Five ABC News Programs, Including ‘World News Tonight,’ ‘Good Morning America,’ ’20/20,’ ‘The View’ and ‘GMA3: What You Need to Know,’ Each Rank No. 1 in Total Viewers for 2023

ABC News is finishing out 2023 as the No. 1 news network on television for the 11th consecutive year (since 2013), with several of its newscasts and signature programs ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers and key adult demos, according to data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight with David Muir” stands as the most-watched evening newscast for seven years in a row and is America’s No. 1 newscast in Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and 18-49 for the fourth year in a row. For the 12th consecutive year, “Good Morning America” ranks as America’s No. 1 morning newscast in Total Viewers for 2023.

In 2023, “World News Tonight with David Muir” stands as the most-watched evening newscast for the seventh year in a row – since 2017. “World News Tonight” ranks as America’s No. 1 evening newscast for 2023 in Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 – since 2020.

• “World News Tonight” has won every week of the 2023 season as the No. 1 newscast in Total Viewers – all 53 weeks.

• “World News Tonight” spent 36 of 53 weeks of 2023 as the No. 1 program of the week in Total Viewers on all of broadcast and cable (excluding sports).

• The ABC evening newscast also stood as the No. 1 program of the week on all of broadcast and cable television in Total Viewers for 14 weeks of the year, more weeks at No. 1 than any other program on television.

“Good Morning America”

For 2023, “Good Morning America” ranks as America’s No. 1 morning newscast in Total Viewers for the 12th consecutive year – since 2012.

• “GMA” also delivered its largest Total Viewer lead over NBC’s “Today” in 8 years – since 2015.

“20/20”

For 2023, “20/20” stands as Friday’s No. 1 newsmagazine and led NBC’s “Dateline” in Total Viewers, Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54. In fact, “20/20” outdelivered “Dateline” in all key target demos for the 2nd time in the last 3 years.

• “20/20” also increased its overall audience over 2022.

“The View”

For 2023, “The View” ranks No. 1 among all network and syndicated daytime talk shows and news programs in Households and Total Viewers. In fact, “The View” took the top spot in both measures for the 3rd year in a row.

“GMA3: What You Need to Know”

For 2023, “GMA3: What You Need to Know” ranks No. 1 in Total Viewers versus CBS’ “The Talk” and NBC’s “NBC News Daily.”
