May 13, 2024 – What would you do if you knew your love story had a deadline? This is the poignant reality for Akito (Ren Nagase) and Haruna (Natsuki Deguchi) in Drawing Closer. The newly released trailer not only dives deeper into the lives of the young couple but also hints at a secret left behind by Haruna.
With just a year left for Akito and six months for Haruna, the young couple are determined to make the most of every moment, a journey that will pull at your heartstrings.
The trailer introduces audiences to new characters who add depth to the story, brought to life by seasoned and emerging actors. Ayaka Miura (Mayuu Yokota) is Haruna’s high school friend, who shows her clumsy yet heartfelt support in endearing ways. Mikiko (Fumino Kimura), the kind florist, helps Akito express his love through flowers. The family dynamics are beautifully portrayed by Nene Ohtsuka and Toru Nakamura as Itsumi and Kazuki, Akito’s parents, and Yasuko Matsuyuki as Hazuki Sakurai, Haruna’s mother and a dedicated nurse.
The theme song, a cover of “Wakamono No Subete” by suis from Yorushika, echoes the emotional experience of the characters and has already sparked a wave of nostalgia and excitement on social media. Suis shares her deep connection to the song: “I recalled the first time I sang “Wakamono no Subete” as a young girl, and I cried so much that I couldn’t finish it. This song plays at the end of Drawing Closer as the characters wipe away their tears. Under the guidance of the brilliant musician, Seiji Kameda, I sang with optimism, and it’s my desire that you’ll feel a sense of hope at the end of the film.”
Prepare to be moved by this tearjerker of two young lovers in Drawing Closer, streaming exclusively on Netflix from June 27.
