January 31, 2025 – NBCUniversal News Group will commemorate Black history in February and beyond with comprehensive coverage across NBC News, NBC News NOW, NBCNews.com, MSNBC, Telemundo and NBCU Academy.
Select highlights include:
- NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, TODAY and NBC News NOW will spotlight trailblazing individuals and groups, including Augusta National Golf Club’s all-Black caddie corps; the first Black pilot to fly solo across the world; and Black authors, chefs and business owners.
- NBC BLK, NBCNews.com’s vertical covering Black identity, politics and culture, will explore how joy is a uniquely integral part of the Black American experience, highlighting the ways that Black people celebrate, laugh, share, and encourage each other through positivity and community.
- MSNBC will feature special guests, including civil rights leaders, and segments that amplify Black voices and spotlight the contributions of Black communities across the country, including during The Saturday/Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart, The Katie Phang Show and PoliticsNation with Al Sharpton.
- Noticias Telemundo recently presented a one-hour special on the National Day of Racial Healing to explore a range of issues examining the profound impact of inequality on children from diverse backgrounds and the barriers they face in education, health care and nutrition. The “Foro Contra el Racismo: Por los Niños” special is available in Spanish on Noticias Telemundo’s YouTube channel, as well as on NBCNews.com and NBC News’ YouTube channel.
- NBCU Academy’s Leadership Lessons series will feature NBC Nightly News anchor and managing editor Lester Holt’s advice for developing leadership skills at all levels. The Academy’s Storytellers vertical will highlight programs helping to increase reading proficiency in Black children and organizations using hip-hop as a tool to bridge the Black mental health gap. The Academy’s Equity Lab will examine Black stereotypes in the news and offer best practices to journalists on how to avoid them.
NBCUniversal News Group recently received four NAACP Image Award nominations, which celebrate the outstanding achievements and performances of people of color spanning film, television, streaming, music, literature, and podcasts.
