London, UK — December 12, 2024 — Jazz vocalist and composer Sarah L King unveils her Christmas single, Snow Blind, a soul-stirring track that captures the intense and overwhelming nature of yearning love. Inspired by the evocative imagery of snow blindness, the song explores how powerful emotions can obscure clarity, creating a vivid metaphor for longing and connection.
“Snow Blind started with the title,” Sarah explains. “I find the concept of snow blindness really compelling as it suggests a strong sense of place, a heady combination of sun and snow. To me, it’s a metaphor for an all-consuming and overwhelming love that can temporarily blind you. The song was written towards the end of lockdown—a time when there was a glimmer of hope, but we still couldn’t necessarily be with people.”
Sarah L King’s journey as a vocalist began in soul and gospel choirs before emerging as a solo artist with a distinctive blend of soul-infused jazz. Influenced by legends like Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, and Earth, Wind & Fire, Sarah’s artistry combines emotional depth and unique phrasing, qualities that have garnered her significant acclaim. Her debut album Fire Horse, produced by Claire Martin OBE, showcases her original compositions and was released earlier this year to critical praise.
Snow Blind stands as one of Sarah’s most poignant creations from the lockdown period, embodying the reflective and yearning themes that defined her songwriting during that time.
Coming from a rich musical heritage—her father a jazz trumpeter and her grandmother a concert conductor—Sarah continues to make her mark on the jazz scene. Her music has been featured on Jazz FM as Single of the Week, BBC Radio 3’s Jazz Requests, and Helen Mayhew’s True Brits. A sought-after performer, Sarah regularly captivates audiences at prestigious London venues including 606 Club, Pizza Express Soho, Hampstead Jazz Club, Toulouse Lautrec, and Piano Smithfield.
As Snow Blind reaches listeners, Sarah L King’s star continues to rise, solidifying her reputation as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary jazz.
