Published: October 29, 2024 — Netflix has revealed a first look at American Primeval, a Western television series that will premiere on January 9, 2025. All six one-hour episodes will be available on that day.
The series comes from director/executive producer Pete Berg (Friday Night Lights), writer/creator/executive producer Mark L. Smith (The Revenant), and executive producers Eric Newman (Griselda) and Alex Gayner.
This is America…1857. Up is down, pain is everywhere, and innocence and tranquility are losing the battle to hatred and fear. Peace is the shrinking minority, and very few possess grace — even fewer know compassion.
There is no safe haven in these brutal lands, and only one goal matters: survival. American Primeval is a fictionalized dramatization and examination of the violent collision of culture, religion, and community as men and women fight and die to keep or control this land.
The series stars Taylor Kitsch (Isaac), Betty Gilpin (Sara Rowell), Dane DeHaan (Jacob Pratt), Saura Lightfoot-Leon (Abish Pratt), Derek Hinkey (Red Feather), Joe Tippett (James Wolsey), Jai Courtney (Virgil Cutter), Preston Mota (Devin Rowell), Shawnee Pourier (Two Moons), and Shea Whigham (Jim Bridger).
The guest stars include Kim Coates (Brigham Young), Lucas Neff (Captain Dellinger), Kyle Davis (Tilly), Tokala Black Elk (Buffalo Run), Nick Hargrove (Cottrell), Irene Bedard (Winter Bird), Nanabah Grace (Kuttaambo’i), Alex Breaux (Wild Bill Hickman), Dominic Bogart (Cook), Alex Fine (Gant), Kip Weeks (Pepper), and Jeremiah Bitsui (Grey Fox).
Julie O’Keefe is the Indigenous Cultural Consultant and Project Advisor. The show’s artisans include Hovia Edwards-Yellowjohn (Shoshone Bannock-Navajo), Pete Yellowjohn (Shoshone Bannock), and Georgette Running Eagle (Shoshone Bannock).
Robert Perry (of Bannock Shoshone descent), Kugee Supernaw (Quapaw and Osage) and Son Supernaw (Quapaw-Osage and Caddo), Joe Cheshawalla (Osage), Debbie Cheshawalla (Choctaw), and Molly Murphy Adams (Oglala Lakota) round out the artisans.
