Louisville, KY – October 17, 2024 — Country-blues artist Andy Branton is thrilled to unveil the live video performance for his song “Younger Man.” This track, inspired by real-life characters Andy encountered during his time living and gigging in the Bible Belt, offers a humorous and poignant take on relationships, age, and the quirks that come with them.
Branton explains the origins of “Younger Man,” noting that the main characters are based on a straight couple he once knew. “She was a high achiever, a real badass with multiple degrees and worldly experience,” Branton shares. “He was none of that—hadn’t traveled much, no ambition, and was about 10 years younger than her. Their relationship never made sense to me. I would joke with my wife that maybe she was just into younger men.”
This humorous reflection turned into a song that draws from Branton’s experiences gigging along the Gulf Coast. “There would always be an older woman at the bar, newly divorced, on the prowl,” Branton recalls. “In my early 20s, I’d always end up being chatted up.” The song captures this dynamic with wit and warmth, including the vivid imagery of “brown butter in a pan,” a nod to the deep tans of beachside life.
The song’s chorus explores the toll of a relationship, how it can age you, while the final verse sees the older man offering advice to the younger man, creating a humorous irony. “I love the idea of the grey in your beard being a relationship’s death knell. It’s ridiculous because a man’s beard usually goes grey before his hair.”
Recorded with a team of Birmingham, Alabama’s finest musicians, including Adrian Marmolejo, Les Nuby, Ford Boswell, and Daniel Raine, “Younger Man” was part of Branton’s debut EP 47 Minutes Away. This EP marked the culmination of years spent gathering stories from the highways and dirt roads of Alabama, and it has garnered critical acclaim for its authenticity and wit.
The live video for “Younger Man” showcases Branton’s signature sound and engaging storytelling, capturing the essence of his journey as a singer, songwriter, and performer.
