July 26, 2024 – Fans of the gripping Nottingham-based BBC drama, Sherwood, can apply for free tickets to attend an exclusive red-carpet screening of the first episode of the thrilling second series. The star-studded screening is taking place at the Broadway Cinema in Nottingham on Monday 19 August 2024 at 7pm. It includes an exclusive screening of the first episode of the new series, followed by an in-depth panel discussion and Q&A with writer and series creator James Graham, alongside some of the brilliant cast.
Set in the present day, Sherwood series two introduces two new families that find themselves entangled with the Sparrows, entering a complex web of local gangs, old rivalries, revenge, and betrayal. Meanwhile, a newly appointed Sheriff of Nottingham is passionately fighting against a proposed new mine for the area, which brings the promise of much needed jobs and prosperity but also unwelcome reminders of the legacy that has mired the community for so long.
The show features a stellar cast, including David Morrissey, Lesley Manville, Monica Dolan, David Harewood, Lorraine Ashbourne, Robert Lindsay, Sharlene White, Perry Fitzpatrick, Oliver Huntingdon and many more (see Editor’s note).
Writer James Graham says: “The response to the first series of Sherwood meant the world to me, as a story set in my home town and inspired by the people, voices and experiences I grew up with. We are not resting on our laurels and know that a second series has to come back even stronger. I’m overwhelmed by the great British acting talent arriving to join some of our existing characters, and all helmed by one of the country’s finest film makers in the form of director Clio Barnard and I can’t wait to return to Nottingham to premiere it.”
Tickets are available via the BBC Shows and Tours website. The ballot will remain open until 11.59pm on Friday 9 August. Spaces are limited and participant tickets will be selected from a ballot at random.
Hayley Valentine, Senior Head of Content Production for the Midlands, says: “The return of this brilliant homegrown gritty BBC drama is amazing for the East Midlands. We have a wealth of talent in the region and at the BBC we always wants to champion our great homegrown storytelling like this, here and across the UK.”
Sherwood series two (6×60’) is produced by House Productions and will air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One later this year. James Graham has written all six episodes and is an executive producer on the series. Clio Barnard is lead director and executive producer, with Tom George directing episodes four, five, & six. The producer is Kate Ogborn (Life After Life; The North Water). Juliette Howell, Tessa Ross and Harriet Spencer are executive producers for House Productions, with Jo McClellan for the BBC. BBC Studios, which owns House Productions, is the international distributor of both series.
Sherwood is one of many BBC Drama titles that underline the BBC’s commitment to make more content across the country, getting closer to our audiences to better reflect, represent and serve all parts of the UK through the best of homegrown storytelling.
