NBC News NOW Pacing Towards Strongest Week Ever in Primetime; NBCNews.com Reaches Largest Weekly Audience Since 2022 Midterms
July 19, 2024 – NBC News swept the entire week of the 2024 Republican National Convention, ranking #1 each night in total viewers and A25-54 among broadcast networks airing coverage, according to Nielsen Media Research.
NBC News was the only broadcast network to grow in total viewers with each successive night of the 2024 RNC. Total viewership peaked on night four with an average of 3.7 million total viewers, marking NBC News’ highest-rated night for an RNC since 2016. NBC News also ranked #1 in the key demo on Thursday, averaging 834,000 A25-54 viewers.
Across the four nights, NBC News averaged 2.9 million total viewers and 634,000 A25-54 viewers. NBC News’ total viewership exceeded 2020 RNC averages by +37% and beat both ABC and CBS by larger margins than 2020. Among A25-54, NBC News continues its streak of being the most-watched broadcast network for every RNC since 1996.
Across all networks, NBC News ranked #2 across-the-board for the week, behind only Fox News.
NBC News’ premium and accessible coverage also reached record levels of consumers across streaming and digital, in addition to broadcast.
NBC News NOW, NBC News’ 24/7 streaming news network, is pacing to have its strongest week ever in primetime. During its coverage of the 2024 RNC, NBC News NOW more than doubled its average audience, +139% vs. the prior 13-week average. On Thursday, NBC News NOW reached its 7th best primetime audience on record.
NBCNews.com reached its largest weekly audience since the 2022 midterms, up +50% versus the prior 13-week average. Video starts on NBC News’ owned and operated platforms are pacing to reach the highest levels ever, already reaching enough starts to be a top five week on record with two days still remaining in the week. NBCNews.com’s live blog from last weekend’s breaking news also drove record performance, marking two consecutive days with more than 17 million unique visitors for the first time since March 2020.
NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt and TODAY anchor Savannah Guthrie anchored NBC News’ special coverage from 10 p.m. ET through 11 p.m. ET on Monday and Tuesday, beginning an hour earlier at 9 p.m. ET on Wednesday and Thursday for NBC and NBC News NOW. NBC News NOW anchors Kristen Welker, Tom Llamas and Hallie Jackson anchored special coverage on NBC News NOW each day from Milwaukee, beginning at 4 p.m. ET.
