BBC acquires mystery 7-part drama Apples Never Fall, based on Liane Moriarty’s hit novel
Liane Moriarty is also the author of Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers
Apples Never Fall is coming to the BBC later this year
June 3, 2024 – The BBC has acquired Apples Never Fall, a limited drama series based on Liane Moriarty’s (Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers) #1 New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, for BBC iPlayer and TV channels. With a star cast led by Annette Bening and Sam Neill, the seven-part drama is adapted for screen by writer, showrunner and executive producer Melanie Marnich and produced by Heyday Television, which is part of Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group.
Apples Never Fall centres on the seemingly picture-perfect Delaney family. Former tennis coaches Stan and Joy have sold their successful tennis academy and are ready to start what should be the golden years of their lives. While they look forward to spending time with their four adult children, everything changes when a wounded young woman knocks on Joy and Stan’s door, bringing the excitement they’ve been missing. But when Joy suddenly disappears, her children are forced to re-examine their parents’ so-called perfect marriage as their family’s darkest secrets begin to surface.
The series stars Annette Bening (Nyad, American Beauty) and Sam Neill (Peaky Blinders, Jurassic Park) as Joy and Stan, with Jake Lacy (The White Lotus, How to be Single), Alison Brie (GLOW, Mad Men), Conor Merrigan-Turner (Thai Cave Rescue, Shattered) and Essie Randles (The Speedway Murders) as their four children.
Sue Deeks, Head of Programme Acquisition at the BBC says: “Suspenseful and sinister, Apples Never Fall is a compelling mystery drama that will keep BBC viewers intrigued until its riveting final episode.”
Apples Never Fall (7×45’) is adapted by writer, showrunner and executive producer Melanie Marnich (The OA, The Affair) and executive produced by David Heyman (Wonka, Barbie), Gregory Jacobs, Liane Moriarty, Annette Bening, Joe Hortua, Albert Page and Jillian Share. It is directed by Dawn Shadforth and Chris Sweeney, who also executive produces.
Apples Never Fall is coming to the BBC later this year.
