Olly Alexander has composed an original song for coming-of-age queer love story, Bonus Track. The BRIT Award and BAFTA Award nominated musician and actor most recently starred in the critically acclaimed Channel 4 drama, It’s A Sin. As Years & Years, his most recent album Night Call reached #1 on the UK Album Chart. He is also set to executive produce the Sky Original film.
Bonus Track, created by Josh O’Connor and Mike Gilbert, is set in 2006, and centres on George (Joe Anders) – a small-town sixteen-year-old – who is on the road to complete social and academic failure. He dreams of being a star, knows he’s a gifted musician – but no one else seems to agree… So, when Max (Samuel Small) – the son of a mega-famous musical duo – enrols at his school and takes an interest in his music, George can’t believe it! Neither can anyone else. But as the boys grow closer, George begins to question why he actually wants to spend time with Max… George is faced with a potential dream come true – if he can just figure out what that dream now really is…
The film also stars Susan Wokoma, Josh O’Connor, Ray Panthaki, with Alison Sudol and Jack Davenport. Julia Jackman directs with story written by Mike Gilbert.
Producers are Helen Simmons and Stephanie Aspin for the UK’s Erebus Pictures, in association with Lunapark Pictures and Fortune Films. Campbell Beaton is also producing, with Savannah Power co-producing for Erebus. Bonus Track will premiere at BFI’s London Film Festival this October and will be coming soon to Sky Cinema.
