Renowned Austrian guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Markus Illko, in collaboration with The String Revolution and guitar virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel, has crafted a mesmerizing rendition of the iconic Johnny Cash classic, “Folsom Prison Blues.” Acknowledging the significance of tackling such a timeless piece, Markus Illko and The String Revolution recognized the need for Tommy Emmanuel’s unparalleled talent to truly honor the track. Adding to the extraordinary lineup is John Carter Cash, the son of Johnny Cash, who took on the role of producer.
To infuse maximum authenticity into the recording, Markus Illko seized the extraordinary opportunity to play one of Johnny Cash’s personal guitars, a 1930s Martin. The recording process also featured the use of Luther Perkins’ 1955 Fender Esquire, the same guitar utilized in the original recording of “Folsom Prison Blues.” This amalgamation of creative forces earned Markus Illko a well-deserved 2024 Grammy® Nomination for “Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella.”
