USA TODAY Sports Media Group launches playable brackets, AR hoops experience

Today, USA TODAY Sports Media Group, which reaches more than 53 million sports fans each month, is launching its annual Brackets competition, which for the first time will include playable brackets for both the men’s and women’s tournament and includes an augmented reality experience.

The Brackets competition is presented by Snapper, a leading commercial and industrial turf care equipment provider and part of the Briggs & Stratton family of brands. Registrations for the brackets begins today, March 8th, at

“The NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments have produced some legendary games over the years, and at Snapper, we’re excited to be a part of the 2021 USA TODAY brackets,” said Harold Redman, senior vice president of Briggs & Stratton’s products group. “As fans, we’ve played the brackets for years. As a partner, we can’t think of a better way to share our brand with other fans as well as our dealers and employees.”

USA TODAY’s Emerging Tech team created their first web-based augmented reality web experience for this year’s competition, “Couchketball Hoops challenge.” Sports fans will have the opportunity to virtually shoot hoops in this webAR experience that challenges them to score as many points as possible across three levels of difficulty. To join the competition, fans can create a bracket at All brackets must be completed and submitted by the start of each tournament, 11:45 AM ET on March 19th for Men’s and 11:45 AM ET on March 21st for Women’s.
