BMG SVP A&R UK Jamie Nelson has been named A&R of the Year for adult contemporary music at the UK’s prestigious A&R Awards, run by Music Business Worldwide, after a string of successes with artists including Kylie Minogue, Rita Ora and Louis Tomlinson.
Nelson won the same award two years ago.
Over the past 12 months, Nelson’s highlights have included a new album from Rita Ora – including her Fatboy Slim collaboration ‘Praising You’ – McFly’s number two charting album Power To Play, and an ongoing Louis Tomlinson campaign that has delivered a Number One UK album and over half a million album equivalents.
Notably, he has also enjoyed success with the Number One album from Kylie Minogue Tension, led by the hypnotic and insistent sound of the summer, ‘Padam Padam’.
The song has gone on to become a Number One airplay record, enjoying over 200 million streams to date, 4 weeks in the top 10 in the UK, and delivering Minogue’s biggest hit in 15 years. Tension, Minogue’s third consecutive Number One with Nelson and BMG, delivered north of 50k album sales in the first week of release in the UK alone and 11 top five positions internationally.
Speaking after receiving his award, Nelson said, “It’s always great to be recognised by your peers. Music is at the heart of what we do at BMG, and I’m delighted to be recognised for something that’s so integral to who we are. It is, of course, only a reflection of the great work that our artists create, and it’s a privilege to support them in their creativity.”
BMG President Repertoire & Marketing UK Alistair Norbury said, “I am delighted that Jamie has been recognised in this way. This is a richly deserved industry acknowledgment of his craftmanship in partnering with artists on the making of so many wonderful records. Padam!”
