CTV News Tops Ontario Election Night Ratings

CTV News was the most watched channel for the Ontario Provincial Election results.

A combined average audience of 840,000 viewers tuned in to CTV News’ election results special ‘Election 2018’ on CTV and CTV News Channel from 9 p.m. – 11:35 p.m. ET, more than 2.5 times its closest competitor.

CTV News was the first news organization to declare both an election win (9:12 p.m. ET) and a majority government (9:15 p.m. ET) for Doug Ford’s Ontario PC Party.

Led by CTV Toronto anchors Ken Shaw and Michelle Dubé, CTV News’ ‘Election 2018’ special was watched by 3.8 million unique Canadian viewers. Audiences peaked at 1.2 million viewers at 9:44 p.m. ET, after the Ontario PC Party had secured a majority government.



In the Toronto market, CP24 delivered the second-most-watched election special, behind only CTV News. Hosted by co-anchors Nick Dixon and Stephanie Smyth, the special attracted an average audience of 210,000 viewers from 8 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. ET. Nationally, CP24’s day-long Ontario election coverage was watched by a total of 3.1 million unique Canadian viewers.
