Migbelis Castellanos Named Nuestra Belleza Latina 2018

After 11 weeks of a heated competition that sought to break stereotypes of beauty, Migbelis Castellanos, 23, was selected Nuestra Belleza Latina 2018 by more than 1.6 million viewers who voted on the Univision Conecta app.

Castellanos, actress, TV host and Miss Venezuela 2013, who lives in Miami, bet it all to become Univision Network’s next on-camera personality by besting women of all ages, sizes and ethnic backgrounds.

Yaritza Owen, Honduran TV presenter and mother of two from Maryland, placed first runner-up; followed by Ceylín Rosario, Dominican model from New York.

The hugely popular reality show, Nuestra Belleza Latina, this year emphasized talent, personality and charisma over conventional standards of beauty under the theme “no sizes, no limits and no excuses.”

The full-figured Castellanos, who stands 5’10”, was drawn to NBL because of its new orientation away from stereotypes. “I do not like to follow old patterns,” she said. “God gave me these curves to help change what people see on TV.”

During the season, NBL contestants faced a variety of challenges designed to showcase their talents in areas such as news reporting, acting, singing, dancing and improvisation. In tonight’s show, Castellanos danced “Taki Taki” with dancer/actor Beau “Casper” Smart to complete her final challenge.

NBL 2016 winner and “El Gordo y la Flaca” correspondent Clarissa Molina presented the crown to Castellanos. The crowning ceremony was based on her just-released rom-com “¡Qué León!,” in which Molina stars alongside popular urban musician Ozuna.

In addition to Smart, also on hand for the season finale were international superstar Pitbull, trap powerhouse Bad Bunny, renowned singer Cristian Castro, Mexican regional sensation Christian Nodal and “Orange Is the New Black” actress Jackie Cruz.

The season was hosted by NBL veteran Alejandra Espinoza and judged by Univision star and former NBL host Giselle Blondet, along with model Denise Bidot, Mexican regional singer El Dasa and Univision personality Jomari Goyso.
